So, for those that have purchased one of these products help me out. I want to pick the wife up one and need some feedback.

Please list which ever model you've used with likes, dislikes, would or would not purchase again.

Thanks!

For the wife i'm guessing you're not looking for a handheld one for offroad use? I have a Garmin Nuvi 200W and am very happy with it.

Get a Garmin. My sister has a nicer one with Bluetooth, music player, etc. The bluetooth feature shows all your contacts, and you can touch screen dial on your cellphone, then use its speaker phone. Even has an audio out to hook up to the aux in on your stereo for MP3 playing functions as well as phone speakerphone.

I was in the market for a $100 one for my GF, she is directions retarded. Bought a tom tom (TomTom One), was highly rated, and didn't like the menus or the way it functioned. The directions were kinda misleading, and required a long time to "learn" how to understand its directions.

Returned it, bought a Garmin Nuvi 200. Was surprised that the menus and nav work THE SAME on the cheap ones and the expensive ones, just less features on the less expensive ones. Really like it. The dashboard function works great, showing speed, max speed, trip distance, time moving, time stopped, etc.

The cheap Garmin NUVI 200 we bought was this: http://www.walmart.com/Garmin-nuvi-200-Portable-GPS-Bundle/ip/10248692

What price range are you looking in?

I hate how much ppl rely on GPS now, as i have always been a map guy. But i do like watching the map when i know when im going on long trips. And when you need to get somewhere fast, without issues, on business outings, they rock. Also help others in teh car understand where you are/are going

Guess great minds think alike.....i was just too cheap to get the W wide screen one. :haha:

I bought a refurbished one off e-bay through circuit city and IIRC i paid 189.00

I'm doing a compare online at the Garmin site and kind of leaning towards the 755t or the 1490T.

If the rain would stop I'd be outside working!!

Whoa, higher price range.

I don't think oyu can go wrong with a Garmin, but i would recommend getting one with Bluetooth. Even if you don't plan to use it.

Also, costco often has some good prices on the ones they carry.

I purchased a cheaper Tom-Tom at Wal-Mart for $135. It does everything that I ask of it which is purely to replace paper maps. I don't need all the extra features that cause it to break/ malfunction.

I have the same one Scott (4x4High) has and love it. But side question do you guy ever feel like the bitch inside the GPS is talking back to you when you don't take the exact route she tells you. I don't know if it is me or not (surely it is me) but when I drive and know the general direction on a trip it seems like she is almost yelling TURN LEFT IN 400', MAKE A UTURN, MAKE A UTURN, TURN LEFT NOW, TURN LEFT NOW!!!!!!. I really have found myself talking chit back to the GPS.

A wasn't going to buy a TomTom unless someone could really push me that way.

A friend of mine has on and when you put in my address it says unfound. Continue to my house and the street is there.

If you don't like it talking to you then turn the volume off and just watch what the directions say to do. It does get annoying listening to the thing but i would rather not have to try and take my eyes off the road to see what the directions say.

One the TomTOm One we returned, my house, that had been in its location in davis for 15 yrs, was shown on an "unpaved road". wtf. :haha:

Had the opportunity to use a tomtom last fall for a week, I was ready to throw it out the window!!! In my opinion the garmins are much more user friendly... Just my $.02

Yah, i can't understand the high ratings some of the TOm Tom's get. Maybe they get better with price ro something, but i didn't see it......

Just be sure to not leave the unit in the car. Also, i woudl NOT program your home location in as a favorite, or don't call hit home.

Thieves are breaking into cars, turning on the gps, clicking home, going home, using garage door opener to get in, etc.....all bad. But we make it too easy for them now
