TomTom or Garmin or ????

Just be sure to not leave the unit in the car. Also, i woudl NOT program your home location in as a favorite, or don't call hit home.

Thieves are breaking into cars, turning on the gps, clicking home, going home, using garage door opener to get in, etc.....all bad. But we make it too easy for them now

Yep, at first i had home programmed but then thought that's a BAD idea so i have it programmed as something other than home but i know what it is. :thumb:

we have the nuvi 200, a month later the 200w came out, the 200 i bought fell 1/2 in price, nice tho, tells you restaurants, hotels, gas, places to see & things to do, it is pretty neat.....my wifey feels the need to talk to it....it will say ''turn right''- my wife uncoinsciencly says ''OK''....i laugh so hard-wife asks ''what?'' i can't help it she says...1 thing about the nuvi 200..it has the name of the road your supossed to turn on in the text on the screen, but the voice doesn't say the name of the street, just when to turn..like this-''turn right/left in 500ft''....''turn right/left 300ft''..so on....if you get a higher model it will say ''turn right in 500 ft on so-n-so street''....something i wish my nuvi did, I've had a few times it would have been beneficial to my turning, but only 3-4 times in over a yr of use...so decide if it would be something you need!

But side question do you guy ever feel like the bitch inside the GPS is talking back to you when you don't take the exact route she tells you..

Jill (our Nuvi voice) definitely has an attitude. We were in Chicago and some streets were closed due to an event, and I half way expected to hear " I give up! Do whatever the f*** you want!" :haha:

We went down to Valdosta this weekend, took my daughter to a waterpark down there.

The 768 is pretty neat item for sure. Great directions and prompts all the way there. Once we got there, we realized we had forgotten my daughters air mat. So, find Walmart with the Nuvi, bingo. Want some Mexican for dinner, find mexican food, bingo, El Torito.

Whomever said get the blue tooth... hi5. Awesome, imported phonebook without asking. The voice dail works pretty well too.

She's happy, I'm happy it was great buy.

Thanks again.

One note about programming your house on the Nuvi, why not? Your address is on your registration which is in your truck anyway. If the theif can't get, where to > find address > input well then you're ok. hehehe:haha:

OH!!! One other item I forgot to mention!!!

Avoidance. There is a part in the setup for avoidance, like avoid traffic, weather and best of "U-Turn". Set it to avoid U-Turn and it will never tell you to U turn. Jill or Jack just tell you recalculating and updates the route!

Thanks Darren, very nice extra that is very nice to have. I set it up to pair with phone and it does "everything" the phone does.

I have a tomtom one.. Use it about 20 times a week for the past year. Only messed me up twice but I was on the right street. Works great. I've had partners who have had the top of the line gps's and haven't really seen anything better about them besides a bigger scren

In regard to which one is best, I think it goes along with which one you might've had experience with first/most.

In my case, we bought a TomTom One XL a little over a year ago & we love it. Just like anything though, it takes a little getting used to. For the most part though, very intuitive & easy to use.

However, my father in law has a Garmin ???W which we don't like as much. Mainly because we had gotten used to the interface on the TomTom, and the fact that the "h" key is missing. Needs a software update. (pretty necessary seeing as we live in Henderson, NV) :D Not because it doesn't do everything that the TomTom does, we had just gotten used to the TomTom.

BTW - the voice on ours is a sexy brit accent, named "jane". We'd also sometimes like to throw her out the window due to the "turn around in xxx miles/feet, etc." incessancy. Is that a word? :haha:

Later,
Buddy

I agree that one's view coudl be skewed, but i think i had a good equal time with each. I haven't owned either, and i played with my sister's garmin for like a day. Then bought my gf a Tom Tom. I personally used it for like a day, decided i liked the garmin better, and returned it.

So for what its worth, i did a pretty equal comparison, and picked the garmin.

Good choice on the GPS. Garmin > TomTom.

I rented a car with a cheap Garmin and decided I need a GPS. Went out and bought a mid range Tom Tom and quickly took it back because the search feature sucked ass compared to the Garmin. One of these days soon I'll go buy a new Garmin.

The problem with both from my understanding is that updates cost $$. And it is my understanding that HP makes a pda/gps that is roughly the same price but free updates on the maps. Might want to look into that.

I have a few GPS units.

I have a Garmin CX (real hand held) ->I use it for dirt biking

I have a tomtom one. -> I bought because a friend was hurting for money.

Tom Tom's will do the job but I like Garmin. Plus with Garmin you can almost get any map you need. offroad/boating/different countries/ect.
One day I will replace the Tom Tom with another Garmin and probably give the Tom Tom away.
