Seeing as how my old Blazer is rapidly approaching a state of roadworthy-ness again, I remembered something I had planned/designed when I was 16 or 17, and driving it often;

A soft top that is essentially just a tonneau type bed cover that also has s back window.

I did some Googling and discovered in years past there were some companies making exactly what I'm wanting, however they all either folded long ago or haven't made said cover in several years, so my only hope looks be making my own.

My idea is that I'd like to take the top off around April and leave it off until October or so, but I have a hatred for soft tops that burns with the heat of a thousand suns, so while the top is off keep this bed cover rolled up and in the truck so should bad weather be predicted I could snap it on rather than try to get the top back on.

My idea was a large custom shaped canvas tarp that functions both as the bed cover and the back of the cab, with a plexiglass rear window riveted in place, with marine style snaps and Velcro running the perimeter of it.
On the truck there would an aluminum piece that runs the length of either bed rail, bolted down to the factory holes with snaps every 8 or 10 inches, with Velcro between them, another piece of Velcro on the tailgate, two bows robbed from a factory made tonneau cover for a square, and a Load Lock/Shower curtain rod type thing in the back of the cab, behind the seats that would keep the front of bed cover and the bottom of the window portion taught and straight.

However I'm not entirely sure what I'd do for the back of the cab, since it's not exactly flat with the weatherstripping where it is. Does anyone have pictures of how the old factory produced ones attached the rear of the cab? Or has anyone else made something like this?

God I remember this picture like it was yesterday.
It was in every off road, and four wheeler mag I had back in the day.

If your really serious about this, call softtopper in Colorado. Ask to talk the owner. He typically has regular office hours. I worked with him to make me a few custom projects, and he was great to work with.

for the back of the cab, you can build the piece that softtopper uses really easily. It's just a flat piece of aluminum with tabs that bolt to the factory holes, and a piece of weather stripping to seal it on the bottom, then snaps on the top side.

This is still an idea for the future, my goal for this weekend is just to get the Blazer to a point where it can successfully make the journey from my buddy's shop to the gas station about a mile away.

After some further Googling, I found more pictures of what I have discovered was Skylers promo truck.
