I figure it has survived 40 years without being cut, so I should spend 3 times the amount of money for 2 knobs and an aux cord! LOL
They do have the market to charge what they want if you *don't* want to cut the dash. It's worth it to keep the original look though. Here's one from an '87 K30 we had in the shop last month. Was so stoked to see it (after seeing it was a 454/4-speed truck).
After going through the hassle of fixing the mud radio hole someone cut with a torch (it was WAY bad) in my 78 I love seeing uncut dashes.
My red '81 had the dash hacked so bad, that I had to build a new panel, to even get a modern stereo to fit! He even hacked the drivers door, with a drill that hit the outside door skin. Then he used a saw, to partially cut the power window motor, before he realized he was doing it wrong! I could kill him!
I agree, great decision not to cut up the dash. Both the '66 and '73 I own now have uncut dashes. Plan to leave them that way. Unfortunately it's my understanding the knob spacing on those aftermarket radios won't work on the 66, but I may not ever put a working radio in it; that truck is more about the driving experience.
So how well does that 400 work with tbi?
I have a 400 sbc long block and a tired 350 tbi in my suburban.
I also have a tpi setup.
Does the 400 get fed enough to outperform the 350?
It is no longer a 400. The original 400 lost a rod bearing, but I was able to save the block, etc. A bone stock '89 tbi motor replaced it. Always gutless, but always runs!
Ask @6872xtc about TBI 400. I believe his Dad has one.

Working on my winch mount. Trying to get the winch up and set back, for approach angle, while using the receiver mount. I can also use it in the rear hitch also.

Looks nice and clean but make sure the structure is braced well.
There's a lot of leverage on that setup by moving the winch above the anchor point.
