Saw my friend do it, so I did it. Dumped 15 gallons of veggie oil into my tank straight. had about 15 left in my tank. So far, its runnin, and running ok!

We'll see how the cold start is tomorow morning....

Big difference, the WVO gets thinner, it will still thicken when cold, but it's more combustible after being cooked.
Let us know what happens, and by the way filter them real well, you don't want your filters to plug up very fast and you don't want your injectors to plug up either.

Yeah, I filtered it pretty good, the filter media was at least smaller than 10 micron. (two layer fiberglass cone filter). The oil that came out from the other side was very very clean, no visible bits, no bits I can feel.

Engine's running good so far. 100 miles down.

As long as you have a good percentage of diesel fuel in it and you are using cooked oil you should be OK without mods.
If you use staright vegy oil you will need topreheat it to liquify enough to work, that is all.
I am working on something like that for my engine.

I did about a 60% diesel, 40% WVO. Yes, totally right about the viscosity issue-

You can use 80WVO/20 Kero if you wish as well, from what I have heard. Basically since diesel is nothing more than oil with kero, your just making the same blend.

No engine mods whatsoever. I did filter it very well, and used only high quality fried oil. The color was consistant with pictures of bio diesel I've seen, so I wasnt too worried.

however, if you get oil that is about the color of used motor oil, I'd be a little wary of just putting it into the tank. Basically, the viscosity is the key. So if you either A. heat it up, or B. thin it out, you'll be good to go.

But before you take the plunge, let me put on a couple hundred more miles. The engine isnt complaining, it acutally is quieter idling and on cold start. Power is a little bit lower, about 10HP it seems.

Well if it's burnt it actually is less viscous, and more volatile or combustible.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he said, "You might want to warn that he'll have to watch his fuel filters
for a while as the high glycerin content will start cleaning any and all
gunk out of his fuel system." FYI Hope its working OK.

The glycerin is what makes it thick, it's like Gelatine, it thickens when cold, about cleaning though I have no idea.

understood the glycerin part, but I didnt understand the cleaning part. I know to watch the fuel filter, as the glycern (and any fatty chunks of chicken wings) will clog the filter after a while. But the main thing was the cleaning- veggie aint gonna clean nuttin, unless its bio diesel form.

MAN, I should try this with my diesel...since I work at a grocery store I can get tons of used oil from the service deli!! they through out about 5-9 3 or 4 gallon jugs a day...I think. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
