Tool Box Organization

nah, a serated visegrip has never chewed up a fastener.. yet flat jawed adjustables wreck them all the time.. ok..

Any tools has it's place but can be used in other ways. I use Adjustable cressent wrenches for bending all kinds of things more then loosing or tightening a bolt. I have wrenches and sockets for that.

Oddly enough, I used my 12" Crescent (brand) adjustable just yesterday to bend/correct and caved in diverter panel (keeps trash and stems out of the fan/alternator) and radiator shroud on my tractor. Also used in to loosen jamb nut and make an adjustment to save a trip back for the right wrench. Didn't require that much torque and plenty of room to work, it does the job. If I had a vise grip in my hand I would have walked back and got a wrench. They have their place, but the problems come in when folks either haven't learned that, or they are just too lazy to walk back to the tool box (oh, wait...)

Thanks for all the responses guys. I am going to use the drawer organizers from these guys: http://foamfittools.com/standards.php.

I'm mainly trying to figure out what goes in what drawer best. The only one I know for sure is all my pry bars and such go in the one big drawer in the middle. I know what most of you think about Crapsman, but it is what's in my budget for now.

I attached a pic of my set up...

Nothing wrong with that box at all. Is it a snappy, no, with it last you your lifetime if you take care of it. Sure as hell should. And if thats what your budget can afford, then jump on it if it's what you want. Can always upgrade as funds become available. I had a 48" Waterloo for 25 years and now my friend has it and it will last her another 25 years as long as her kids don't F it up.

Wifey bought the main box and roller for my birthday...(Black Friday special for $599)

I added the side cabinet and middle drawer from the Sears Outlet site (scratch & dent in retail stores) using gift cards I got for Birthday/Christmas as well, plus about $75 in cash. So by all rights I have $75 in it...

I can't complain too much. LoL

I had a Waterloo before my first Snap On. It started cracking all the welds.

You should check out garage journal. Lots of this stuff over there

X2...Another great site I get lost in for hours on end.

I saw the pictures you posted of your tools.......You have a every every sick mind keeping them in that kind of neat order!!!:D:D
I wish I could, hell I'm lucky if I get them in the right draw let alone in any kind of order.
The good thing about it is, when I'm searching the box for that one tool I know I have...I stumble across another one I needed last week.

Any tools has it's place but can be used in other ways.

Even my not-mechanically-inclined girlfriend has learned the motto:

"There's the right tool for the job, the wrong tool for the job, and then there's what's in your hand."

This latter often seems to end up a flathead screwdriver, a ballpeen hammer, or yes, an adjustable wrench :haha:

Where the hell did YOU of all people get a ballpeen hammer? :haha:

My mentality is that "There is a tool for every job and a job for every tool". Use the proper tool for the job and nobody gets hurt.

Just last week I had a co-worker help me change a trailer ball hitch to a pintle ring with MY tools and what does he do once we get the nuts off the bolt, he uses MY wrench as a hammer to remove the frozen bolts. I about came unglued on him, I told him to NEVER use MY tools improperly. His response was, "tell me you never do that". Umm, a frozen bolt and I use my HAMMER.

Now that my garage is organized, I in fact have two of them, including the one you had me get and the old one I had misplaced.

They're even in the same drawer. With all the other hammers. Organization is an amazing thing.

Ordered a sample sheet from ToolLodge... Seems pretty interesting. I will take some pics of it before and after, and then dissect it.
