nah, a serated visegrip has never chewed up a fastener.. yet flat jawed adjustables wreck them all the time.. ok..
Can always upgrade as funds become available. I had a 48" Waterloo for 25 years and now my friend has it and it will last her another 25 years as long as her kids don't F it up.
We call them mexican wrenches.Yeah, I always call adjustable wrenches "tin benders".

Any tools has it's place but can be used in other ways.

Even my not-mechanically-inclined girlfriend has learned the motto:
"There's the right tool for the job, the wrong tool for the job, and then there's what's in your hand."
This latter often seems to end up a flathead screwdriver, a ballpeen hammer, or yes, an adjustable wrench
