This is from a Jeep website but I think it pretty well translates across to a lot of vehicles. Funny.

Light bars are as good as putting a big sign on your Jeep that reads "I'm a dork".
Ten of the dumbest things put on Jeeps

so what are the worst accessories added to full size GM rigs?

i'd have to say chrome diff covers, bushwacker flares (go ahead, hate me) and and fake in-bed roll bars.

I don't agree with the light bar or snorkel lol I think they're useful and bushwhackers keep me legal and they allow me to cut off the rust without looking half assed.

That list applies to all 4x4 vehicles. When I worked at Lithia I saw a bunch of 2011 trucks with 6" lift kits and the biggest offroad tires they could fit shipped to the dealer. Bugged the **** out of me, mall crawlers right off the line.

And yeah, what Yellowk20 said... some states don't allow tires to stick out past the body of the vehicle.

I hate mud flaps, but they are required here. They don't do **** but flap around in the wind, helping spray mud everywhere.

I didn't find that article funny at all. It really irritated me to read such a snooty opinionated commentary. They knock what an individual wants to do rather than follow "their" idea of what to do. The very first one knocks highly modified Jeeps on trailers. They knock Boggers because they are "off road" and blame Madison Ave advertising? Really,Madison Ave. advertising promotes Boggers? I thought they promoted Jeeps and,to an extent, the lousy attitude many Jeep owners have about their "off road" vehicles that need tons of modification to be worth a damn off road. Yeah,Rubicons are good, but that's not most of them. Madison Ave has people buying these rough riding freeze your butt in the winter vehicles so these suburbanites can project an image of outdoorsiness and adventure. Hey,I think they're pretty cool. I just know a lot of people buy them for the image then regret it later. I'm just reacting to the attitude of the writer of that article and the fact that so many are sucking it up. Very irritating in my book, that's all.

Might point a few things out to you.

One, the author doesn't knock "highly modified jeeps on trailers" rather the author mocks stock jeeps on trailers.

Two, they don't "knock" boggers because they are "off road". The author is deriding people who put boggers on street only rigs. Which is rather dumb if you ask me.

Three, it's a humorous opinion piece. A piece in which it is the author's goal to be opinionated.

Obviously you don't agree with all the author's opinions, which is fine.

Just not sure why you have to go on such a rant about it.

My posts must be rubbing off on him.....:D...

I have a Lund visor on my '82 GMC K2500...was there when I bought it,probably put there to hide the rot on the roof at the windsheild that was puttied up under it--the roof has bondo 1" thick on the passenger side that looks to me like a tre fell on it at some point in its past lives...

I actually like having the visor--it keeps the sun out of my eyes, prevents snow and ice from building up on the windsheild when its parked somewhat too...I'm not crazy about it,but I dont hate it enough to remove it and go thru the agony of fixing the roof either!...

Yeah you mis-read the article about as much as it could be mis-read. It's just an opinion and a funny one at that. I agree with it almost completely. It's about people wanting to be "tough" and "off road" then spending their money on flash and image instead of the actual equipment that would make them "tough" and "off road".

When I read things that irritate me I just move on to the next post.

the majority of it is very true, i know people who do it to there jeeps and trucks, i find pointless to buy a 4x4 and lift it sky high, if you aint guna use it you might as well jack up a 2wd truck, but the light bar and high lift jack i use the hell out of mine

True,I didn't thoroughly read it at all. Didn't want to. That's because the act of knocking what others do just rubs me the wrong way...for humor or actually being sickeningly serious. Being specific wasn't my point. It takes class to live and let live. I just don't get off on judging what others do. I guess stuff like this doesn't bother those who look at what others do the way the author does. Just ain't me. Now I'm moving on.

Light Bars

In many cases the installations we have seen include a row of very expensive lights that aren't even wired!

Found a chrome light bar with KCs someone tossed to the curb.

Great find, took the new KCs and scrapped the light bar :haha:

3. 20" rims and low profile tires. Obviously not seen on real trail rigs but the idiots that do this even to street Jeeps don't seem to understand that the low profile tires negate the fact that the vehicle has 4-wheel drive. Low profile tires are not synonymous with good traction in low traction situations (like snow and ice in the winter) Last winter we saw more 4x4 rigs in the ditch sporting 20" rims and low profile tires than anything else. One of my neighbors with this setup on a larger SUV managed to make it only half way up our hill then proceed to spin his pretty over priced low profile tires until he ended up in the ditch, mind you he had 4-wheel drive. Right behind him another neighbor in a Honda Accord drove right up the hill, go figure. Why anyone would buy a 4-wheel drive vehicle and then ruin it's capabilities by putting stupid wheels and tires on it are beyond me.

I see this one all the time at Pismo. Low profile tires don't do as well a regular tire but it is the rage. All lot a people get away with in the sand but I've seen a lot of those people stuck.
The only time you need the 20" rims when you have a 40" plus tire.

It's funny cause it's true. I see both sides, mall crawlers are stupid to me, when they have a ridiculous ammount of money tied up with lifts, tires, suspension work...etc, meaning it COULD be a nice off road rig, but never goes off road. But like everything else, it's a look, and a look people like. It's no different than a tuner putting a body kit on, or sinking 20 grand into an old muscle car and it being a garage/trailer queen. I think mall crawlers piss me off because they have all the goodies and parts I wish I could have and don't utilize them the way I would -- off road. :D

And for the other parts, guess it's the redneck in me, I like the roof visors, lightbar/rollbar, and what are those things behind the cab you bolt on, also connect to the bed... yup I like 'em all. But I'm also not gunna put 38" boggers on my pavement pounder DD either.

The stock jeeps are on trailers because you can't fit all the gear you need for a weekend in them. So you either tow a trailer with the Jeep (pushing your luck) or get a full-size tow rig.

All the gear you need for a weekend of what?

Backpackers commonly fit a weekends worth of gear on their backs.

I understand needing much more gear for wheeling, but I guess it just depends on what you're doing.

My dad has a jeep and every time I've been in it, I've thought about how you could never take your wife and another couple camping in one for a weekend. No room for food, tent, and tools. Hell, not even room for the 4 of you, let alone the dog! ;) and I'm a backpacker, so I know how to pack light.
