alright just out of the blue today after my truck , which has a chevy th400 behind my 500 was run for a little while then parked then re-started it started making a knocking noise like there's a bolt tumbling inside the torque converter. anyone have any experience as to what usually happens when a torque converter goes?

Check the bolts holding it to the flexplate or flywheel or whatever you call the thing that the starter turns.

From my Slosh.com "slog":

06 Jan 2006 This week on This Old Truck
If the your truck is making a hellacious rattling like the starter is about to fall off, or perhaps the crankshaft has become entropic, energetically speaking ... Check the torque converter bolts. When they get loose, bad noises come out.
Which is better than the Magic Smoke coming out ... auto transmissions do not generally allow the smoke back in.

'tis a cracked flexplate. after taking it for a drive the noise it got worse and upon some disassembly the cracks are clearly visible now. hopefully after some sleep, I'll be changing that.
