Ok, here is my crazy question for the day.

I tend to rent a truck and trailer to make the 13 hour drive up to Moab. I’m not interested in driving it that distance and then driving it home too.

I had a brilliantly stupid idea the other day.
Why not rent an F450 stakebed truck instead of a diesel truck and U-haul trailer.

I can place jack stands under the lift gate to support the K5’s weight. I also have 4 ramps to lessen the climb. (Small ramps you drive up on to change the oil)

Think the gas mileage would be that much worse with the stakebed? I would save the $300 U-haul trailer cost. Let’s say everything else is equal.

Hypothetical if anything :D

What you need to find is a place with a loading dock that has a ramp. My local True Value has a ramp next to the building for unloading trucks. Drive up the ramp and right on to the truck off the dock. No sketchy ramps, no jack stands, no lift gate, just straight on.

Lift gates are strongest either all the way up or all the way down, having it partway up is kinda asking for a problem. Finding a loading dock or dirt mound as Hank mentioned would be a better idea.

As far as fuel economy goes it would be similar, maybe 1-2mpg worse on the truck since it's taller and will catch more wind.

Are you considering options in case I don't go, or you changed your mind on coming with me?

I'm looking at all my options sir.
I wasn't even thinking about what you're up to. Just thinking about getting the blazer up to Moab.
I don't remember how you wanted to work that out in traveling up there.
I was going to head up the night of the 4th and head home after breakfast on the 9th. Cabin is for 5th-8th.

I was looking at options and depending on who else is going I could drop down to Bakersfield and meet there and take 58 to 15

I'm kind of in the same boat, no tow rig and I want to take the truck. I have a friend that works for enterprise I might try and work a deal with.

Mile marker 196 on I-40 here....let me know what time to be at the exit.:D:whistle::waytogo:
