Hey guys, so I have about $5k to spend on a trailer and I also will need to pick up a truck to tow my jku (~5k lbs) and Jeep Willy’s(guessing ~2.5k lbs) from CA to WY. I am wondering if it’s possible to find a tow vehicle to haul both out in one trip and what kinda trailer I’ll need to get. I wanted to pick up another 5.7l tundra as I had no problem towing my old k5 with that and would build a 4x4 prerunner with it in the future but I’m thinking I may need a diesel or 6.0l gas truck or something similar this time around. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Towing thru the mountains with that much load you’re going to want more than a 6.0 towing. Unless it’s a one time only trip then you could maybe get away with it.
But for the amount of weight and length of trailer I’d think a dually would be a better option.

I paid $5,100 out the door for my pj buggy hauler 10k brakes both axles, 20x8.5 deck. Just pulled it from pollock pines ca (near the rubicon) to moab utah and it tows great behind my 05 dodge ram 2500 with my k5 on there which isn't light. Came home with about an extra thousand pounds on the trailer in welders tube bender lots of dies and a steel work table.

Sorry I just noticed you were talking about loading 2 rigs (lack of sleep lately)

If I could fit them both on the trailer I'd try it, but my post is of no value being I missed part of the question. :1zhelp:

Considering the length and weight, a gooseneck trailer would be highly recommended. Either a 3/4 or 1 ton is needed for the weight rating.

Gas or diesel are both good options. If it's going to be a dedicated tow rig and you are a gas fan then don't be afraid of the big block 8.1 from GM. Any of the turbo diesels will pull it fine but I would avoid the Ford 6.4 like the plague and any of the Dodge auto's unless you get one with the Aisin trans.
