TPI engine pics.

I have creeped close to 21mpg straight and level on hwy 5. I run Amsoil lubes bumper to bumper, and I run my tires at 44psi.

Double trouble,
what ECM are you running?

I bought my complete set up from Affordable Fuel Injection, It's a stock ECM with a chip they burned for my engine specs.

Oh....yeah. I don`t like that guy. I was looking for a custom chip, for my already up and running system.
He said he could do it, as long as I bought a harness......I had to tell him 5 times that I didn`t need a harness before it got through to him, and then he said he could not help me......after, from my recommendation, my boss purchased $1200 worth of product from him for a TBI conversion on a boat.
I told him that I wanted to pay for the chip.....but he got stuck back on harness again.
The Man is an idiot in my book.

Show the data log, I burn the chip ... the TPI will run better than factory when I chip burn!:D TunerPro RT can data log.

Thanks Dave,
I am waiting to get the transmission rebuilt soon, then I may just load my PC into the truck and go for a data logging drive.
I`ll let you know when I get close.

Now doing a TPI install looks like a nice upgrade.

I have 89 Jimmy TBI, can I just swap out the manifold/tpi setup and computer on the truck or would I also need new heads also?

Any full info on this swap for TBI to TPI?
Any Power increase?
Any Fuel Mileage gain over the TBI?

Thanks,

I have a bookmark to the Edelbrock SBC TBI to MPFI install instructions. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/tech_center/install/3000/3506.pdf

I know the Edelbrock MPFI is not a factory TPI system, but many of the technical details are similar for installing either TPI or MPFI. The fuel pump is different for TPI, so the fuel pump replacement instructions from the Edelbrock instructions can be very useful.

The Edelbrock MPFI system is designed to use the same computer, but a different chip. Changing to TPI requires using a TPI computer. Changing the computer wiring is very detailed work, so expect to spent a full weekend on just the TPI computer wiring.

OK Dave, The Truck went to the trans shop on Monday, They said that I have been running around for the last 5 years with an exploded sunshell.

I`ll get you a datalog ASAP....any particular driving situations you need to see......like hills, freeway Town?

The best data log to tune with includes all types of driving. Just drive like you normally drive.

What Dave said!

And if you are using WinALDL look at the BLM tables, try to fill in as many blanks as you can. It is impossible to do but you will see a pattern start to emerge as to which ones can be filled in while driving. the more the merrier! It's an axis of RPM vs MAP.

I have Tunerpro RT.

I just haven't had much time recording data with TunerPro yet to really help there but Dave is very good with it.

As you probably know TunerPro also gives you the tools/ability to modify your data recordings along with making definition files etc... I was so used to watching the BLM table while driving (yes I know that's stupid) actually just a peak, then stop and look, then peak as to get the blank spots to fill in by getting the right manifold vacuum vs RPM. So anyway I used the features available in TunerPro to modify the XDF file and built a MAP vs RPM table just like WinALDL and it worked!!! :D I had help from Robert Sarr who builds most of the definition files used in TunerPro and he built the origanal $42 mask so I have to give him credit for all the work he shares! :waytogo:

I'd share it with you but it's not the right XDF for your TPI ECM... what XDF do you use?

I`ll check out Datamaster........I haven`t really had any time to figure out Tunerpro, and I don`t want to melt my engine down. The truck has had a transmission problem for quite some time, and I`m getting it back from the trans shop tomorrow, so it will be running in tip top shape. I would hate to try to have it tuned with a slipping/crappy shifting transmission.
I appreciate the help on tuning....... I`m not lazy, but this is my first experience with Tuning. I have done about 60 Carb to EFI conversions, and the tuning was done elsewhere. This truck is the first conversion I have done using a Car system..........All of the previous conversions were specific for the vehicle....I.e; Gm trucks got TBI only, Cars got Camaro or caprice TBI or TPI. The ford stuff was all truck or car specific EEC IV stuff..........I never dabbled with custom tunes, somebody else did that.
I use this truck often, and its either get it tuned, or swap in TBI.
I am using the 8D XDF, and my current eprom is an AUJP.

The best thing I like about DataMaster is the Histogram, because the Histogram will show where the mixture is lean / rich. The screen shots I have below are from different vehicles I've tuned. All green and all red are not good!

I've never used DataMaster but will have to give it a try. Those pictures are exactly what I was trying to explain about the BLM table in WinALDL and how to use it.

The dataMaster BLM veiw is like WinALDL on steroids! :eek1:

We should have somewhere to upload all these pics and save them...
