Over the last few days I have experienced really high idle speeds. I jumped the aldl and got 22 (tps). When I started the truck it seemed to run at the right idle speed. Took the air cleaner off and wiggled the tps connector. As soon as I touched it, the idle went up to around 1200-1500 rpm (just a guess). I unplugged the tps connector and the engine kept running at the same speed. Shouldn't it have died? Or at least dropped rpm? Seems with no signal it should have done something different. Any thoughts? The tps sensor is new, the connector is new. Is it just a bad tps?

should be .5 volts at idle...they also should be replaced every 50K miles...

It will run without a signal from the TPS. Ask me how I know. But it won't run right. And milage goes away.

I don't have a volt meter handy. Guess i'll just swap it out and see if that fixes it.

Check your connector. I had to rewire mine due to an engine swap to the newer round style TPS (same 3 wires). Once I got it on the road I noticed it was idling high and engine light would be intermittent (on and off). Discovered it was the plug that was the problem. Had to clean it, and recheck if my wiring was holding. Fixed the problem!
