Hey fellas,

I'm hell bent on an LS Swap, got a local guy that sells complete 5.3's for $850 a pop. He's got a really good reputation so I was gonna buy a 5.3 from him around the 15th of this month.

I put my SBC's on the local Craigslist. A 350 that smokes a little and a 355 that is in great condition, intakes/ carbs for both yada yada yada. Got a lot of people asking how much for this or that, long block, complete... then I got a text from a guy asking if I'll take an '05 6.0 LS in trade for all of my SBC stuff. Pulled from a wrecked 2500 truck. It doesn't have the wire harness, computer, dbw pedal, alternator or A/C compressor. Otherwise complete, one of the coils is cracked too.

Said he paid $1,700 and was gonna swap it into something but never did.

Does it seem like a good trade? I'll have to find a harness, computer and pedal assembly for it...

I wouldn't without the harness and ECM.

These trucks do pop up wrecked but complete for cheap

I guess it all depends on where your located.. 05 6.0 should have the better full floating rods, around my area its just what he said a $1500-1700 motor all day long. Harness, ecm, tac module and pedal should all be less then 200 at pull a part.

My local LS guy said he'd sell me a complete harness, computer and dbw pedal assembly with tac module for $150.

I'd trade if you can easily find the missing parts. Assuming the valve cover was just unbolted to see how clean the inside is?

If you look at the picture with it on the engine stand they already had the valve cover off, I was just wondering if there was an issue or where they just "checking it out".

I see people like to do these LS swaps with old junk yard LS engines. That is a lot of money and work to put a high mileage engine in. I have done a couple of junk yard GEN-I small block engine swaps for other people, only to have it blow a head gasket or something in about 10 or 20 thousand miles or so.

I plan on going through the engine before install, I'm not in a huge rush to put it in.

Planned on new gaskets and seall all the way around to include head gaskets. Cam, springs, double roller timing chain (if it'll fit under the stock valve cover).

I've heard of the LS engines running long and strong due to all the updated stuff like hydraulic everything etc, Most of the LS engines I'vebeen looking at are higher mileage that this one, generally between 120k - 150k.

I like the LS engines, but a complete ignition system on one of these engines can cost as much as an all new complete old school GEN-I small block engine. But, they are nice with the roller cams and good flowing heads and all.

I love gen 1 small blocks but I'm ready for an LS. A few years back I said I'd never touch one due to all the electronics and stuff but over time they just seemed more and more appealing... good gas mileage, factory roller stuff, dont have to mess with timing or trying to mod a carb to not flood on hill climbs, no re jetting for elevation etc.
