Traded my .38 SPL for a welder. Sweet update with pics! Time to weld!!!

My box is on the opposite side of the damm house!!!! No attic or crawl space either. I have a huge arched ceiling in the middle of the house with attic on each side. Going to install a 220 outlet next to the box and use the extension cord.
Damn that sucks! What if you went on the outside of your house?

For my AC unit they ran conduit and burried it near the foundation.

I do it all. Sales, service, setup and deliveries. I remember what it was for. The liquor store that's hooked to my building got broken into a few yrs ago. They broke a hole through the wall and through the walkin cooler. Stole all the beer and the cameras never saw them. They installed a bunch of these sheets I n the walk in cooler so they couldn't steal the beer.

That would be a huge pain. Lots of concrete and trees and bushes. Im just going to put a plug next to the box. Its not like im going to be using it daily.

You have acces to all the free steel u want?! JEALOUS!:thumb:

I do, but I need to learn how to turn into cool stuff first. Making my first welds in about 10 minutes!!!! I will post some pics, but don't fall out of your chair laughing!!

Damm. I have a hundred hrs of welding to do before I make anything. Heading to my dads office tomorrow to get some steel to practice with. I have no freaking idea what im doing, But it sure is fun!

Now time to eat some sushi.

..

Now I need to buy some tools. Chop saw, magnets, clamps, wire brush, chipping hammer and a bunch more stuff I'm forgetting.

This is a blast!!!!!

The CK5 looks OK (quite good for your 2nd welds) but it looks like you could set the voltage a bit higher. If you look at the edge of the weld, it looks like the weld is just sitting on top of the plate rather than penetrating into it.
What gas are you using and what pressure? Make sure that there is no breeze or wind to blow the shielding gass away also.
Get yourself a metal guage so you know the thickness of the metal and then set the welder per the chart inside the wire door. What diameter wire are you running? I recomend .035" for anything thicker than sheet metal.

Thanks! I need all the help I can get.

I am running .030 wire. 75/25 gas, the gauge says 30, and when I pull the trigger it say 25. I really need a gauge to check thickness. I was at the wrong setting. I did have the fan blowing at my back about 20 feet away. I was on my knees and in a crappy position. I'm sure there is no great position though. The voltage was set higher, but the welds were glowing bright red so I turned it down a bit. I will also buy some .035 wire.

Thanks bud!!!!!

I say turn your gas up, and possibly turn feed down. So it penetrates instead of building up. When you shove more wire at it, that is going to "cool" down your puddle as it needs to now melt more metal, and result in less penetration.

i run 10 psi of gas, no issues... 20+ psi will blow thru bottles in a hurry..

Looks like you are actually moving to fast, from Tue puddle being on top and skinny, and make sure you are moving or whipping the tip back and forth. Of you are welding on 1/8 angle I usually set my speed to 65 70. And gas can be 15-20 psi.

65-70!:eek1: our welders must be way different then lol, cuz i welded on some 3/16" angle last week and i laid some pretty nice beads and had it at 25 feed as it helped it penetrate a little deeper. Along with 25psi working pressure on my reg.

Indoors, I run about 12psi of gas. Outdoors if it is breezy I turn it up a bit.
The book I promised is on the way and it will really help with pictures and detail of what to do. If you feel like the wire is poking at the metal (pushing the gun back), then turn the speed down a bit. .030" wire is fine for now as well.

Awesome, Thanks!!

Just got back from my dads office/ scrap yard. Picked up some some different sizes of plate, square tubing and round tubing. They have all the steel plate you could use in a lifetime. They are going to cut some 3/4" for my table. Right now the plate was like 15'x10'.

They send 20 huge seatrains of steel to China everyday. The place is huge. The only steel I will ever have to buy is DOM, I dont think they have that there.

This should be enough to play with for the weekend. My neighbor gave me some as well.

Jealous Deuling here ... Lol. Make sure you clean it up real well before welding on it. It works soooo much better wheb it doesnt have to try and melt throuh rust and oxidation etc... Grinding wheels, flap disks, cut off wheels are your best friend for welding :thumb:

flap disks are the hot ticket. i run 40 grit my self . and get them with the threads in the center . saves changing time and looking for the tools.
