Traded my K5 for a C30...

Got some new pictures of it before it went in the shop for a transmission rebuild.

Still contemplating a 4wd conversion.

And keep the running boards or ditch them? I'm torn about them.

I'd get rid of the running boards. Rust creators...and fugly IMO.

Tried putting this in the garage tonight. Fits fine, buuttt I forgot about the camper shell and BOOM, I hit the garage with it.

Today I'll be taking the camper shell off, and taking it to have it saftey inspected.

did it bust up the topper when you done this? if not, what are your plans for it?

The bottom mounting rails are kinda rotted from sitting on a wet surface, so it kinda busted the mounting points up a bit, but not bad.

I took the topper off and put it in my shed on some 4x4s to keep it off the ground, don't plan on putting it back on. I think the truck looks a lot better without it, and with just a toolbox in the bed.

i just got me a 87 srw 2wd c20 crew myself, i think it does looks better w/o topper but i'd like to find 1 for mine, especially 1 w/raised roof like yours. i could put a matress in the bed & use it camping on weekends & i could stay the night in it when doing long distance parts recovery..i could roam further w/o payin 4 hotels

Take the hubcap off and take a fairly large hammer and bang around the inside of the wheel pretty hard, it's worked for me with drums that have frozen up on semi's and motor coaches.

And there's no problem with it being 2wd. Not at all. My plans for my future family hauler is a 2wd diesel Suburban.

And lose the running boards, but keep the little mudflap things at the end of it.

Looks like a good trade to me. You got a nice tow rig, now to pick up a trail only rig and a trailer!!

Yeah, everyone tells me it's a good tow rig, but I've never had anything to tow. I sold my 05 Silverado about 6 months ago and got a Trailblazer SS, so I missed having a truck to haul stuff in.

Plan is to get a 4-wheeler and I can use this truck to haul it, plus use it to go camping and on long trips. Just gotta work out all the little bugs, and clean it up a bit. Maybe one day I'll find a good deal on a trailer and another K5.

Problem with having trail rigs around here, is that there's only like 3 or 4 'legal' trails, and they're all like 100 miles from me. I don't really ever get weekends off to make trips like this, so a 'trail only' rig wouldn't get much use by me.

Yeah 454/TH400, TH400 is currently getting rebuilt. Apparently the kid ran it with no fluid in it long enough to kill the front pump and ruin the torque converter right after I got it legal. He drove it 50+ miles to my house that night, no more than 3 days later the transmission was dead.

And I'm pretty sure I solved the locked up drums. The stupid e-brake cable is what keeps causing that. Every time it sticks, I just have to crawl under there and pull the cable going to the passenger side rear drum. Hasn't been sticking for the past 2-3 days. If it happens again, I'll probably just cut the damn cables.
