Trail Clean Up Truck Project w/pics

I made a little progress over the last couple of days.

-Have the carpet abotu 80% in.
-Have the headliner about 80% in.
-Actually have the front set of seats 1/2 bolted in.
-POR 15 on the frame to get it ready to put the bed back on.

In this picture you can see where the frame is spliced. Many people have asked me for the measurements. The frame was cut 7" from the back of the cab. The center hole on the crossmember directly behind the cut is 8.5" back. Then the tail of the frame was cut off for the last part of the bed. Hope that helps.

I got a little work on the truck today. Mostly got the garage cleaned out in the nice weather so I have a clean place to work on it again.
Pushed it outside to clean out the garage...........I have been PUSHING this truck around for nearly a year now........I will be sooo excited when I can just turn the key and drive it back and forth. :p

Subscibed. Thanks. Planning on making my rig cleanup friendly. Everyone should. How a bout a "gin pole" setup on the back for moving trees/trashed cars, etc. ?

I have a yard full of chevys if you still need anything.

I plan on putting some form of "hoist" in the bed to lift heavy objects into it. I will probably mount the BullDog 12k winch up high in the bed by the cab as part of the rack for pulling items from behind and up into the truck when needed.

I have plans for a rack for the back that will hold shovles, rakes, trashbags, etc. Just need to get through the basic recycling of the truck first.

Want to build/find a rear bumper that can be used to tow with, and also have a mount for a vice, etc. This truck should also be able to be a support rig for events and clean up days. (little bit of a rolling work bench, cooler holders, etc etc etc.) (need a built in grill;))

y'know, honestly if everyone did their part, we wouldnt need guys like you to clean up after them slobs. kudos for caring!:waytogo: i try to pack out as much as i can every time i got out, but a dedicated rig will definatley help. again, kudos.

Got attacked by a wolf last night working on the truck. Tried to get some camera phone pictures of the event.....here is all I got....(crappy camera phone, but kinda funny pics)

For some reason Foster just decided he wanted to hang out under the truck with me. Turned into a petting fest and I did not finish much.

Got a temporary exhaust on the truck. The mufflers were brand new from Flowtech. They were mounted at a funky angle in the other truck and conflict with a cross member on this one. Just sawzalled off the ends and can at least fire the truck up now and drive it to an exhaust shop to get them remounted and have tail pipes made.

X2 :haha: I would **** myself if that wasn't my dog. Malamute or husky?? I absolutely love them dogs but i get them confused so often

Fired the truck up briefly today. Radiator leaks......JB weld!! Trans leaks.....new fittings......no fuel delivery.......not sure what is going on there. I have a new fuel pump. Just not sure the switching valve is working right.

Tossed the new bed on the truck. Kinda like the color, maybe the whole truck should be that color. Strange thing is that the bod holes are off from the original short bed. (??????)
Couple of quick pics.

Okay. I am a bit stumped today and need a little help figuring out what I am missing here.

I am having a fuel delivery problem.
-I looked in both tanks and found about 1/2 of old fuel but tanks are clean and clear of junk.
-I put a bottle of "heat" in each tank and some fuel. 4 gallons in the drivers tank and 2 in the passenger tank.
-We wired up the missing switch to be permanently on the drivers tank. The fuel gauge moves and all.
-There is a brank new mecanical fuel pump and pushrod on the truck AND a brand new electric fuel pump on the truck. (both are working fine)
-I can dump fuel straight into the carb and the truck fires right up. (but won't keep running)
-I pulled the fuel line off at the carb and stuck an air nozzle in it and you can feel air coming out of the drivers side tank. No other leaks in the system.
-I have tried running just the electric pump for a few minutes and it will never pick up any fuel.

What am I missing? Lines seem clear and tight, all the pumps work, tanks have fuel in them but I just can't get fuel to the carb!!!

maybe check that all the lines are going to the right spots. maybe you somehow have the delivery line going back to the tank or something like that. sounds stupid, but its been done:doah:

I have been beaten by the truck today!!!

-Tried swapping the lines around to make sure I was using the right ones. (using the electric pump to try to draw fuel)

-Bypassed the switching unit totally so I am drawing straight from one tank.

-took the mechanical pump off, checked, changed line arrangements. (since there is no indicator as to which is in and out)

-when to blow out the lines to make sure they were all clear. When I pressurized the first (small) line it flooded fuel out the other line. So the pressure in the tank pushed fuel through. I hooked everything back up and pressurized that line again to fill/prime the system.

NOTHING I DO WORKS!!!! I CAN'T GET FUEL TO THE CARB AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING??????!!!!

I am totally out of ideas. So unless someone has some this thing will be in my garage forever.

are the lines new? are they rubber lines? try a new mechanical pump?

a buddy had a high pressure electric pump on his and his rubber lines were old and it would actually suck the hose closed in a section.

If anyone in Colorado is interested in helping I will be working on it this afternoon.
-Need to fix the fuel delivery problem so I can get it started.
-Also need to rebuild the front d44 bearing assembly and I don't have the special little socket.

So today I bench tested both pumps......

The brand new electric pump makes noise but does not actually pump!! The cam lobe on this engine must be just flat enough to not pump enough through the mechanical pump either.
Bought a block off plate today, exchanged the bad electric pump for a new one. Wired it all up and it fired right up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!! For the first time in a YEAR I pulled it forward into it's storage spot UNDER IT'S OWN POWER!!!!!
I still have lots of things to do before trying to drive it. But that was enough for today.

Scott does good work. I've worked with him before on decals, etc. He prints my designs too. Highly recommended.
