Trailer Deck Sealing

You will want to do it fairly regularly because it will just suck it in and not look like you did it but mix a little paint thinner with boiled linseed oil and roll it on heavy. After getting enough soaked in it will help keep the wood from weathering so much. Most of the trailers I have done have been older ones that were never done and that stuff just sucks in like a sponge. The paint thinner just thins the linseed oil a bit so it can soak into the wood.

For the oil related suggestions, doesn't this leave the deck a little nasty? (ex; working under a truck on the trailer)

Surprisingly no. Soaks in to the wood really easily and doesn't leave it slick or nasty.

I am surprised. Seems on hot days the oil would rise up like a racetrack does. Glad to hear tho, i have several gallons of used oil.

Just did a new deck on my snowmobile trailer this weekend. Treated deck with Thompsons water seal put on with a roller. Easy to apply, looks good, water beads up well.

Depends on how much abuse the deck gets...

PASS on the.motor oil...sloppy mess to.slip on.... DOT Truck Squad would flip.seeing that... Do you want to be crawling under a truck or tractor in a motor oil soaked surface?

Thompson ok... Cuprinol oil base clear or green.. Val Oil clear on the deck... All are clean to the touch.

Did the top side deck on my enclosed trailer in epoxy... Creosote on the bottom.

I use motor oil on mine and have no issues. Granted I don't crawl around on it at all. Never had any issues with oil transfer when loading a truck on to it.

I use CCA .60 PCF treated wood and run it. I did get about 15 years out of painted yellow pine but now I prefer treated-with-the-good-stuff wood.

I have gallons of used black oil and diesel but I'm worried about getting my clothes or kids getting dirty after it drys

Wait till the DOT Truck Squad Inspector comes in contact with the oily mess. . . . .then the fun begins

Nor in the South West, only 8f they observe you doing something extremely stupid on an interstate would they even consider stopping you. Regular highway patrol is different

I used a blend of motor oil cut with a bit of diesel. Went on nice and repels water well but dirt is nearly magnetized to it. I'll try something different next time around.
