Trailer Deck Sealing

I've used boiled linseed oil, Thompson's, oil based paint, random stain, etc over the years. I prefer wood decks because I put screws in them to hold blocking.

My grandparents all used petroleum based products. Oil, diesel, kerosene, etc. All worked well on hardwood, largely pointless on softwoods.

Boiled linseed oil works the best. It lasts about two years. The first month after putting it on it is a slippery-sticky consistency that leaves a mess.

Once there are cracks in the wood, you really need to use something to keep water out of the cracks. Paint works, but only for a few years.

I have a wood deck on my flatbed for my sxs. It gets muddy fairly often and is very slick at times up there.

Any thoughts on a coating that will help w/ that?

We used a mix of kerosene and used motor oil. Seems to be holding up. It was slick for the first couple months but it's not noticeable now and still sheds water after a year.

Before I replaced the deck on my car hauler with treated wood, the last two times I coated it was with Porch & Floor for commercial floors... had sand in it. Super sticky, really hard on the skin.

Sure... Roll out a heavy wet coat of epoxy on the deck....liberally cover wet epoxy with coarse Black Beauty sand blasting medium.... Ir coarse aluminum oxide blasting medium...

Blow off the loose medium when the epoxy dries.

U could substitute Vinyl Polyester Resin for epoxy .

Since we're now into the high dollar range with epoxy, I'll thow in my fix...it's a little cheaper than epoxy, but Raptor liner sprayed on gives you a nice rough surface and will keep the oil and water out of the wood.

Line-X makes a nice sprayed on pattern ... would expect it to be slippery with oily films in the rain....

I've bought Epoxy cheap, polyester resin even cheaper.

Blasting medium can get pricei
