Trailer recommendations

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a car hauler, and need help deciding what size I need. It'll mostly be used to haul a K5 with a BBC, on 1 tons and 40s...and also to pick up the occasional project/parts cars or trucks, that may be long wheelbase. Tow vehicle, for now, is a 2012 Silverado 1500 crew cab 4x4, with a 6.2L, and I THINK 6L80(it's a 6 speed). I'm thinking a 20 foot...but dont know if I can get by with 3500lb axles, or if I really need to step up to 5200lbs....I think I know the answer, but just trying to verify with folks with more experience. It's a pretty decent price difference between the two, and 3500s are a lot more common. Will the bigger axle trailer be much heavier...too much for a 1/2 ton? Also, any recommendations on steel vs wood deck? Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Man, those are nice! Mine has heavy duty ramps on a hinge (not detachable) but they’re not that big. lol
 
Featherlite aluminum trailers rust free, lighter than steel.
Consider a goose neck trailer.
Weight ? Probably 7k cargo capacity to be safe.

If budget conscious, look at Kaufmann. You can't beat the product for the price.
 
If ruff roads and like to max out weight skip aluminum . Friend has 1 now but it needs almost a dozen welds and some on main rails .

Also unless you can weld aluminum you will be at the mercy of others for fixing it .
 
The snowmobile world started using Aluminum trailers 30 years ago.... the original problems were trying to build the same platform, substituting aluminum for steel.

Fast forward 30 years, new structural designs and the original shirt comings are gone. Today, you couldn't give a painted steel snowmobile trailer away at the dealership.

Take a k look at some of the over the road open flatbeds .... Hi arched decks that are made of aluminum.

Face reality, you can overload anything and break it. Aluminum isn't the issue, rather the lack of common sense by a person trying to stuff ten gallons of stuff in a Five gallon sack.
 
I’ve got a 24’+2’ gooseneck that I had custom build . 102” wide, drive over fenders, slide in ramps, 7k axles. Had 14ply tires with less than 1k miles, and new boards (about 3 months ago) that has been waterproofed top and bottom.

Will let it go if someone is interested (due to health issues) I’m in SW Mississippi
 
@nvrenuf where did you buy the 12ET at? I am in the market. Do they sell direct?

I didn't actually buy it, through a really unusual deal I got the trailer (new) through a trade with a friend. I know it came out of Tx but I couldn't tell you what dealer. Sorry, I can't answer your question better.
 
Yes keep in mind our rigs can easily approach 6000 lbs, which when you have a a 2000 lb or more steel trailer you are already at ~8,000 lbs, so the 7K doesn't fit.

Another option from driver over fenders is removable fenders, but this is more of a PITA with steel because they are so heavy to remove.

Also keep in mind most 1/2 tons will recommend a load distribution hitch around 7K lbs or more.
