I am building a turbo 350. I had one that was mildly built up, and one that was built stock. The mild 350 had a broken case, so I took the guts from it and put it in the good case from the stock rebuild.

Now, on the stock trans, they had the intermediate accumulator spring in with the accum piston. The mildy built one did not have a apring in it, it was just the intermediate accum piston and the cover. That doesn't make sense to me that it wouldn't have a spring in it. Is that something to make a firmer shift? Or do I need to put the spring in it.

no spring in the accumulator should soften the shift , did you check behind the pipe plug beside the accum to see if it is blocked by a "slug" this is done so that the accumulator is inoperative so you do not need to use the spring for shift feel

ok, just checked it, and it was not blocked. So should I just put the srping in it? or should I block it off? Which will be better?

.... if no spring softens , as mentioned by darryl , put it in so its not soft
