So my Blazer started making this weird knock/tick noise at idle, and a little through the rpm range. Found out it was my flexplate when i pulled the tranny cover. It is cracked and fractured in about 3 places. So im gonna drop it out and fix it. Got a few questions.

Do i drop tranny and transfer case together? or pull trans case off then tranny?

The front of my tranny leaks down onto the torque converter so im gonna pick up a Torque Converter Seal. Should i get the Front Pump Seal too?

Any way to tell what flexplate i have so i can grab a new one before i pull it out? its a th350.

Any tricks to making this quick and painless lol?

And my d44 leaks from the pinion seal... alot! Changed fluid in it and now its even worse lol.

Is this the part i need for it?

Axle Shaft Seal: Front Axle; Spicer 44-5f 8.5" Ring Gear; 1 Per Vehicle Quantity

And can i just pull the u joint off and then the nut and slide that off and change seal from there?

Thanks in advance!

No need to drop the trans/t-case just place a jack under them and slide it rearward enough to get the flexplate bolts out and replace the flexplate (also no need to separate the trans/t-case).

The front pump seal is the only seal there and that is what's leaking if it's coming from the convertor area.

Measure the flexplate to see if it is a 14" or if it's smaller, then you need to know if your engine is 2 piece rear main seal or 1 piece rear main seal.

Read my first answer to answer this question.

If you have a D44 front axle you need a National seal #5778

The pinion Yoke can be removed, seal replaced, then the Yoke reinstalled without any issues as the Dana axles use shims and not a crush sleeve.
Thanks in advance!

I have answered your questions above in red.

Thanks 4x4High!

Will i have enough room to comfortably take the front pump seal out and replace with the tranny slid back?

Obviously you'll have to move the trans/t-case back far enough (keep in mind that it will have to come down "some" to go back far enough, don't plan on keeping the crossmember bolted up is what i'm saying) to remove the convertor and that amount of room should be enough to replace the seal. Also don't forget to put a catch pan of sorts under the convertor area as it will spill fluid out when you remove it (the quicker you get it off the less mess you'll make).

4x4High, awesome answers! I have a leaky front seal too...... I have all the tools, trans jack and a lift, but the K5 isn't a BMW and it scares the &%#$! out of me on the lift more then the height to get the tires off the ground! it gets all wobbly and spooky! :o

I have replaced a few flexplates and one trick I have done is remove two of the tranny to engine bolts that are in the middle with 21/2" long bolts. then remove the rest. so when you slide the tranny back it stays aligned which makes it alot easier to re-install. but if your changing the torque converter seal, they wont help. you will have to slide it alot more back to get the converter out. I am thinking you have the 203 tcase and its heavy, so watch you weight balancing of the tranny/tcase when you remove it all together.

Yeah i have the 203. Thing looks like it weighs alot.

Just changed front pinion seal. Old one was way dead. Found the seal at Kragen different part as they didnt have the National one.

If anyone is interested it is
SKF 15788.
