Tranny questions and more...

I took two pictures for you guys. They are of the side oppsite the Vacuum Line side.

Which of these are for the switch?? I don't have one near my gas pedal at all... So I have to set something up I geuss. Is the extended part of the pedal bracket with the hole in it the mounting part for the solenoid/switch??
I think the bottom pic is the detent solenoid, which activates the valve body to downshift, not sure about the pedal bracket....the only truck I had with a 400 in it, didn't have the kickdown working either.

Thnaks guys. I'll go to the dealer tomorrow, and see what shows up!

And I'll post the part numbers for any other intertested people.

dyeager535, I went to the dealership today, and the guy says he needs the last 8 digits off of an 81' or newer vehicle.

Is there any way you could hook me up with those magical numbers??

those dealerships need new parts guys if they can't figure out how to look up this cable without the damn VIN number.

Guy is an idiot. Par for the course with MOST parts counter folks anymore. I can get the part numbers tonight likely, at least this weekend.

I suspect you aren't going to like the availability status of the parts. But you may get lucky, never know until you try.

I've been running on miracles with this truck as it is! :D

They had the other kick down cables waiting in "the warehouse", so I am hoping they will have these switches/solenoids waiting there too...

One can only hope.

And why do they always hire an idiot to work the parts counter??

cuz they can't screw in a light bulb

I dunno. As expensive as most dealers are with parts (my local one will only sell at list, even if I have a list of $1000 of parts in my hand) you'd think they would hire folks that could sell parts. Gotta charge $75/hour for a mechanic to work on a vehicle, $20/hr to someone for a parts counter who doesn't even require tools and nets 50% on each sale, or $12/hr for someone that can't do either job.

Man, I don't say this often, but I can NOT find these pieces in the parts manual. Either the page its on is missing, it's not here, or I've got selective vision.

Just spent the last thirty minutes going through each group, and while I can find the accelerator pedal and all it's pieces, the TH400 kickdown stuff isn't there. Nor is it in with the transmission parts (which includes linkage and TV cables for other transmissions).

Don't know what to tell you. Hopefully someone with another parts manual will look for you.

I believe I found it! I found one in an older 6.2 diesel work truck at the local pick and pull.

I couldn't get the plug for the tranny though. There was wasps, and I couldn't even see underneath it really...

Is this the part?? And do I just give the orange wire fused power, and send the pink/black wire to that nubbin' on the tranny? There is nothing inbeteen right?

I bolted that part to the gas pedal bracket today. The gas pedal lever arm does not reach the switch at all...

Is the switch supposed to make contact with the arm 100% of the time?? There seems to be as much throw on the switch as there is on the pedal arm...

I don't think the engagement of the switch happens til about 3/4 throttle.

Should I just stick a block of wood in there or something then??

Even at full throttle the pedal will not reach the switch. It's about 3/8" away at that point.

I wonder if this switch is buggered up though...

My switch sits near the middle when it isn't depressed at all. It looks like it should sit all the way to the front. and thenslide back to the middle position... It would reach the pedal at that point....

You see? That is just sitting there loose, and you can see that there is alot of forward throw left.. Maybe this switch is busted.

Here are those pictures.

The first one is the gas pedal sitting in it's normal position, and the second picture is of it floored. You can see how far away from the switch my pedal is...
