Ive been contemplating doing away with the column shifter for my TH350.

What shifter will accommodate switching to a floor shifter? I see B&M is rather popular.

How difficult is this to switch over to floor from column?

Are there any benefits to this switch over?

What steps are down to convert from column to floor?

I was browsing the YouTubes and interwebs and here, I’ve just seen pictures not really a how to or the benefits to switching.

Thanks.

Art Carr/Winters shifters are also super popular. Main benefits are:
Cable shifters arnt affected by body to chassis flex
Gated shifters are easier to pick a gear with (This is especially important if you have a full manual valve body)

I went with a B&M Star shifter. It's cable driven so there is flexibility in mounting.

It's easy, just disco the shifter from the trans and connect the new cable, it bolts to the transpan for stability.

Benefit for me was clearance, my doubler is clocked up, so the exhaust runs up the left side where the shifter linkage was.

I was digging through old threads and most were over 10 years old. I figured I’d start this thread incase any new products have surpassed the old ones in those threads.

But it seems many like the Lokar ones and the cable connections so you can mount the shifter we’re you want it, incase you have Tcase shifter or.... downside to cable is the cable getting hung-up and not getting into gear as easy.

I also saw these but I’m sure if it will get in the way of my ORD twin stick..

Art car looks nice but super low to the ground. I’d probably have to come up with a way to raise it up. I’d rather just have the longer shifter...

You will have to do something with your neutral safety switch on the column or it will not start.

years ago i did a B&M light truck mega shifter . it looked good but i hated it after a week . interlock to pull up to get in to reverse or drive . and ratchet down to 1st and then back up to get N and pull inter lock for REV . . . . . i am back to factory in the daily driver . and i like my lokar . last one i had was GREAT push button in center and go were ever you wanted like stock just on the floor .

few pics of my old setup that people use to think was stick shift . was trans mount and linkage rod super short . . . loved that sucker . was on a th400 and up threw floor were stock 4speed sm465 shifter hole would have been . then slid on a gm 4 speed sm465 boot for the complete look .

I saw that thread before posting this one. It’s looks great and what I’m after. I just wonder how it would work with my twin stick

I really like that Lokar. What did you do in regards to the neutral safety switch? I see Lokar sells one that mounts on their bracket. But if I need to wire stuff this project may die a quick death. Hahaha

Maybe enough room?

cleared my twin stick from ord just fine .

i live life a bit on the edge so no switch for me . 10 years on that rig it was fine . but only i drove the truck . the switch is just 2 wires from your old switch .

if you do do the floor shifter make a bracket under the hood to hold the linkage up in park . and i cut the handle off i did NOT pop the pin . this helps the key work correctly for lock and removal .

My B&M has wiring for start and reverse.
I had a Lokar from a buddy, horrible, the longest throw ever. It was going to require a giant hole in the floor.

Can you link the one you’re usuing so I can weigh options?

thank you, thats about where it would sit in mine too, Did you wire reverse lights?

Not in the shifter.
The switches that came with it were such raging pieces of shit, I couldn’t ever get them to engage when the shifter was in the right position.
I wired a switch in the dash for reverse and handle it manually.
