Well, started swappin the tranny from my blazer, to my 89 pickup, anyone have any tips, I have the blazer tranny out. gotta get the 89's out. anything I should buy before putting the tranny back in? getting the 89's out will be much harder since its a full truck, the blazer is just a frame, so it was simple. Wish me luck, my garage floor looks like I murdered someone in there. hah

Jack

Take 2 old tranny bolts. Cut off the heads. Grind slots in the cut off ends. Insert into engine block. Now you have something to help guide/hold the tranny in place, while you start the other bolts. The slots are so you can use a screwdriver to remove them.:D

Renting a tranny jack is worth the money?? if you don't have one.

Similar to 3 on the tree's idea: go get 2 long bolts that are the same size as the bell housing bolts. Like 10 inches long. Get the tranny somewhat at the right angle but 6 to 8 inches away from the motor and slide the long bolts in the lower holes and tighten a little into the bellhousing. then slide the tranny jack forward and the tranny will slide right in. Then put in a couple of the normal bolts, pull the long bolts out and voila'

Get some trans cooler cleaner and clean the cooler out. you can either get the stuff designed for this that is in an aerosol can or you can run brake cleaner through it and then clear it with air. Otherwise you will contaminate the new trans with anything bad that was in the old one just as soon as your fire it up.
