Trans Fluid change question

Got everything ordered.
Digital gauge/mount, the pan, some new front shocks (nothing special). Looking forward to doing some fun wrenching instead of fixing stuff. :)

Greg what do you recomm for a good Synthetic transmission fluid for the 700R4?

Any brand that is easy for you to get that meets Dexron II or better specs. The Dexron VI is a synthetic and is easy to find almost anywhere, it will retro fit backwards to any GM using a Dexron spec fluid.

Pan will be here today. Ill have to wait on the gauge/temp sensor (end of the month). In the meantime I was wondering RTV on the new gasket or no?
I cant remember if its recommended for that kind of application or not.

No RTV, shouldn't need anything beyond a spray of gasket cement to keep the gasket in place if surfaces are flat

I run them down till they are "snug" ( depending on gasket, operate vehicle for a day or two then revisit to be sure they are still snug). We use quarter inch tools when doing this. One torque setting does not work for all pans and gasket materials.

yeah thats how I do it too. Just kidding with ya. Thanks a ton for your help on this topic. :)

Well, got the pan in the mail. I really hope it fits. Gonna be close to that front driveshaft. Maybe I'll know for sure tomorrow... out of time today.

Pan is on, fit is good. Seems like a nice pan. I'm still waiting on the temp gauge though. Supposedly be here Wednesday.
