Trans ?

My fil has a '93 1500 Suburban that intermittantly goes into od. Being that it is a '93 I believe that it has a 4l60e. I don't have an fsm but I would guess that it would be one of about 3 things, vss, solenoid or pressure sensor. Since I'm not familiar with this transmission at all can someone give me a diagnostic flow chart/list on where to go with this?

should still be the 700r4 version, they called them 4l60 (no "E") but i was told with mine, the second one that was causing issues, that there are a couple of solenoids inside the pan like 3 if i remember right, one controls the 1st and 3rd shift, another controls the 2nd and 4th shift, and the thrid controls the TC lock-up.

i don't know which ones are which, sorry, but my second trans was doing this and even shifting real late and harsh for a few months until just last month when it finally went into 1st gear, and wouldn't shift out.

i'd be luck on the days going to work IF it went into overdrive type of thing, sometimes i could manually shift from OD to 3rd, usually took several times, and then it would catch overdrive.

see if you can drive it, trying this manual shifting and get it to go into OD.

I'll check with my fil and see if he's tried shifting it manually and what his results were. Its a '93 and I think that is the year that they went to the 4l60e. Thanks for the response.
