Transfer case options. Doubler or magnum

And I wouldn't run NWF stuff for several personal reasons.

Do you have to pay duties on stuff purchased from them?

Care to elaborate, or is it too personal?

I only think you pay to import if it's shipped UPS and over $800. Then it's $27.50 on up to $1200 from what I've read. The key is that it's manufactured in Canada, I believe. USPS does not charge. Not an expert, so could be way off.

Thanks for the clarification. Do you mind telling us why you chose to go with the Titan over the magnum? They’re pretty close in price as well as what you stated above.

Edit:

Ah, I see now I was confused on the NWF boxes. The ecobox requires the adapter for the figure 8.

Total length of Titan/205 - 17.83” :waytogo:

Mine is actually just a bit shorter than that as I have a 1350 flange on the back. So IIRC, mine is just a tad over 16" from mounting surface on the Titan box to flange on the rear 205.

I went titan box for a couple different reasons. I had already built my truck up around a SYE 241 that was in my truck. Build a real beef crossmember/skidplate around it (lots of time into it), had my exhaust already done, had lots of money rapped up in my front and rear driveshafts, etc. I wanted to go lower gearing in the tcase and looked at all options. I was about to spend money on an Atlas II, but then realized going titan box would be just about the same amount of money, and I'd have a 4 speed. So then I looked at Magnum vs Titan box. The titan is a full inch shorter than the magnum, and that inch made the difference. It made it that the titan/205 would be just a tad longer (less than 1") from my current SYE241 setup, so it meant no modification to my crossmember/skidplate, no driveshaft modifications (just kicked my rear axle back 1" and I was done), and no exhaust modifications. So in the end, it just made my life a whole lot easier to spend a little more for the titan box (over say the eco box) and not have to spend money on modifying everything else. The titan box is overkill for my rig, but it's bad-a knowing I never have to worry about the tcase, haha. But I think the magnum is just as bitchin of a piece and you can't go wrong with either.

Yeah that's what I was thinking when I said @1977k5 built one. He mated half a 241 with a 205.

Yeah, I knew he did a while ago, was just figuring there was some confusion when reading the comments and figure I'd take the time to clarify.

I picked a Magnum Box because some really awesome people bought it for me. And I wouldn't run NWF stuff for several personal reasons.

I have nothing but good things to say about NWF. Was very good to work with them. Even had an issue with my shifter for the titan box and Kris worked with me very well. I was overall very happy with the experience.

Yeah, you have to pay an international processing fee when it ships from Canada, but he builds that into the price. The price on his website is the price you end up paying after that fee...at least that's how it was for me.

In your circumstance, I can understand why you went Magnum :haha:, as I would have done the same. I like all these companies and usually try to spread the cost around. For instance, during my Titan/205 build, I used ORD's flanges front and rear along with their 32 spline front output upgrade too...just to show them some love as I think they are all great guys and like to support them (plus, I have A TON of ORD parts on my crew cab build too...so they have taken a lot of my money, haha)

I think it has more to do with the support ORD provides CK5, Blazer Bash etc.

I believe this this is correct from what I remember (was over a year ago I got it all). Since the titan was over the threshold, I had to pay the international fee, but as I said before, Kris didn't charge extra for it, it was built into my cost

OK....I have to ask. And don't take this the wrong way because I'm not totally sure. Does the 205 come with the Magnum box, ready to bolt in depending on the transmission. Or is the 205 separate that you have to add to the Magnum box? That set up would be awesome to have but I'd have to sell my 241 w/SYE, the wife, and some other things to afford it.

Thank you, good to know. Now it's on to find a 205 and rebuild it. I'm sure I can get some stuff sold to make this happen. Going to take a little while.
See what ya'll did? You got me hooked on the Magnum box. :doah:

Welcome!

I just rebuilt my 241 with SYE and didn’t even get to put it in the truck before I decided I was gonna do the magnum (or Titan).

Or...............keep the 241 w/SYE and get a Black Box? Too many options. :dunno:

Ok....let's look at this from my point. NP241 has overdrive, mated to a 4L80e and 40"-42" tires keeps me in a good highway rpm range. And no, I don't plan on driving 1000's of miles on that set up but it does seem nice to be able to go somewhere without hauling it or changing tires just to get to a place to do some 4x4ing.
What kind of rpm's are we looking at going with a 4L80e to Magnum to 205 with same tires? Is it highway driveable for a decent distance?
On top of that, a 205 is pretty rare in these neck of the woods.

Bear with me on this, I'm still learning so no "eye rolling" allowed.

That does help me to continue to decide on the Magnum, thanks for the input.

Finding a 205 is going to be the killer.

6:1 :yikes: That’d be too long of a case for me.

For once in my life, the shorter the better.

Actually, it would be 7.4:1 in double low of a 241/241 doubler (or an eco box/241 combo). In all reality, and looking at it from a realworld perspective, 7.4:1 would be too low and almost worthless. And in that configuration again, you really only have a 3 speed case (1:1, 2.72:1, and 7.4:1). With my titan/205 case in double low (700r4, 4.56’s in the axles, and 42’s) its still crazy low gearing. Its only usable in real technical rock crawling or wanting rediculous control on steep decents. Other than that, I use the 2:1 of the 205, or the 2:72:1 of the titan box the majority of the time.

All just my perspective really, some people want 100:1 overall crawl ratio...not me, my 76:1 overall with 42’s is plenty
