I've got an 87 Jimmy full size with a NP208 in it. I had the linkage worked on and now my case pops into neutral by itself. Does anyone know what causes this and how to correct it? I would hate to have to tear out my transfer case. All help would be appreciated.

Iirc, there is an adjustment on the shifter linkage. My bet is whoever worked on it does not have it set right. Take it back. ;)

Thanks a bunch, its at the shop now. I have looked through all my books and could not find a reason for this problem. Again thanks i appreciate all the help.

I hope this isn't the case for you but I bought a used 208 and when I would pull up to a light I would pop into neutral. Turns out the Teflon tips on the shift fork had worn down and would not hold it in gear. Easy fix but you have to open the case to replace them. You can do it while still in the truck but I pulled mine just for ease of working on it. If you wait to long to replace them, like I did, you will have to replace the shift fork also.

Great information thanks alot. i will have to pass this on to my shop for them to look at. Again i appreciate all the help and great info.

Here's the question, why did you have the linkage worked on to begin with? Was it doing the same thing? If so, may be time for a t-case rebuild. Been there, done that.

I had the linkage adjusted because it was difficult to shift the case to different ranges. It never did it before i ad it adjusted. Thanks for your help, i'm trying to get off cheap if i can hahaha.

I just noticed that the truck you have in your avatar is a carbon copy of mine. Looks wise that is. I'm running much the same gear as you except i'm running Military CUCV axles and 3.73 gears

Unless you had the gears changed if you are running military 10bolts they are 3.08 gears.

Alright. Good on ya. I would have gone deeper running 33s and a 700r4. That's just my opinion.

The color combo? I can't believe how many brown/tan K5s, trucks, and burbs I see on this sight. And my wheels really are white under that coating of mud. :D

I only see two or three down here. I am hoping to paint mine one day. Color it storm gray.

I've been thinking about painting mine too, didn't like the brown/tan to begin with. But, being here in the Northeast, if you find a solid body you can't be picky about the color. Was thinking about silver with a black stripe, so I photochopped a pic of someone elses ride to see what it would look like...

Very nice color and lay out. Yeah i have to agree if you find one with a solid body you kind of have to jump on it no matter the color.
