[FONT=&quot]guys, i have a 1985 k5 here in the Philippines. i got it from the previous owner who change the trans from automatic to manual. base on the what i learned from this forum to identifying trans, i believe its a SM420 connected to a NP208 tcase. im planning to get a SM465 to replace this since the 2nd gear on this SM420 is worn out. i saw a SM465 with a 32 spline output for sale, will this bolt on my existing NP208 tcase? and im confused on what adapter plate to use with this set up, will it be short or long? what input spline do NP208 have?

some pics i have of the trans and tcase:

Well I believe you have correctly I.D.ed your trans & transfer case.

All 420's I have seen were 10 spline. To mate a 32 spline 465 to your 10 spline t-case would require a new input shaft for the transfer case, or a new output for the transmission.

Your combo looks like it has some sort of homemade adapter in the form of a steel plate between the transmission & the adapter. I am betting that your 208 is a 27 spline input & was the original from the T-350/700r that your Blazer came with.

If I were you I would seperate the pair & see excatly what I had. We need to know the spline count on the 208.

***EDIT: After looking again your adapter looks like a T-400 adapter so your t-case could be 32 spline input. GO ahead & seperate them. Need to see pics of the adapter you have & spline counts on the input of t-case.

that would be a good idea to separate the two. just to make sure before i buy a sm465 trans. your right it has a home made plate between the trans and tcase and the 208 came with the 85 k5 with its original trans which the previous owner removed . are all np208 have the same spline input of 27?

no there are some 32 spline 208s. 27 spline 208s came behind 700r4s and Th 350s

32 spline 208s came behind TH400s and SM465s

I thought all Chevy 400's were 32 spline including the 208 & that the Ford 208's were 31 spline?

I was guessing that your K5 came with a T-350 or a 700r4. That is why I made the 27 spline statement.

If it had a T-400 originally I thought it should have a 32 spline input version of the 208.

Boz is right 32 spline, that's what 2 hours worth of sleep will get you.

I edited my first response to make it correct

I can't see his pictures here so I'll just add that no factory civilian K5 came with a TH400. Only the US Military M1009's came with the TH400's. Being in the Philippines there's a decent chance he has either...

I was thinking the same, from what i've seen rigs built to be sold in other countries also get wierd options. Without knowing any history on his rig all we can do is guess.

Hey pistolero you split that trans & t-case yet.

Chevy/GM didn't build stuff different for export unless it was built overseas to begin with or sold through a conversion company (like Aussie RHD conversions sold through GM Holden).

Also I'd bet his wasn't sold by GM in the Philippines. Most likely a CUCV and maybe something imported from the States.

i still have not separated the trans and tcase, will work on it tomorrow. i check with a vin decoder here's what i got:
