I picked up franks blazer and the guy told me he un-pluged the lock-up on the trans because it had a miss.well the ignition module is the only thing we didnt change so i changed it.I took it for a test drive with the lock-up pluged in and
it goes in and out of lock-up like crazy.

My question is this guy just trying to pass the buck?Would a miss cause this?
and since i changed the ignition module and it runs great until it tries to go into overdrive. It feels like the trans is a bucking horse. any info would be appreciated.

Needless to say its going back to the tranny guy in the morning.

Whatever controls the lock up might be the problem,(ECM or a vacuum switch?) or the solenoid in the tranny ,I'd make sure those are working right and getting 12V steadily before blaming the converter clutch..

well he put all that in,so ill let him fix it.and its a vacuum switch.

Make sure its not hooked to a ported vacuum port on the carb,it should be connected to manifold vacuum (at least I think so,I could be wrong)...
If your engine has a healthy cam it might throw off the vacuum too,and affect the switch..

Ya there is a vacumm port on the manifild where he put it
Hope thats right

Going by the original diagram in another post here a few days back, the torque converter switch gets vacuum from a manifold source, its also tied in with a thermal vacuum switch that controls the EGR and EFE valve too-(which would only prevent lock up until coolant reached a set temprature),and it shows another hose tapped into its vacuum supply that goes to the charcoal canister, which shouldn't matter if its been "deleted"..
Edit..

If it has a "miss" that can throw off the vacuum signal also--the engine needs to run smooth to have a steady vacuum reading...maybe the coil is dying or something, look for any vacuum leaks
..
Another thought I had is maybe the tranny didn't get its ground strap hooked back up,there should be one from the pan bolt or case to the truck body near or on the passenger side cab mount...if you dont see one,I'd make a ground wire and hook it up to the body after scraping it shiny, see if that changes anything...since the engine & trans have rubber mount inserts,it could be a poor ground..long shot, but worth checking into..

Any luck Kain? This is just becoming a bigger and bigger pain in my @$$. It's been over a month since I was last able to drive this thing.

Yeah, but replacing clutches sucks too....been there, done that...(usually more than once, before I got a "good" one!)...also automatics are easier to drive in city traffic and for plowing...but I digress, they do seem "weak"...

Another perfect example of why everyone should drive a stick...

:thumb:

and why I don't trust most tranny shops for remans . I have seen so many f-up / scabbed together / half arss / stupid shops to stuff its not funny .

I got 1 guy I use to have do my stuff . but he only did th350 and few th400 that was it .

otherwise if newer od stuff I go name brand with full nation wide warrenty and be done .

Nope, let the auto do the work.nevercould understand on a 4x4 you would want a stick

ya he did everyone i talked to says he was great, but it doesnt look that way now

Mine did this for ages until I realized the lock up on tbi motors is solely control by the ECM, I hadn't corrected my speedo since doing gears, tires and the tranny was constantly in and out of lockup in OD. I got a ratio adapter to correct the speedo and it hasn't done it once since.

Well it turns out the hot wire for the tc lock up was bouncing and causing it to kick on and off.He hooked to a hot all the time and it quit, so i am going to hook it in a better spot.

The mechanic Mark was the one to figure it out he took me for a drive to show me what it was
