Transmission not shifting sooner????

Hey guys, I have a 87' K5 4x4 with a 350 and a 4 spd AT.. For some reason it doesn't want to shift from 1st to 2nd until 20mph, even under light throtle. Is there a way to fix this or is this just normal??

Any help would be gratly appreciated...

You need to "set" the TV cable. If you keep driving it you will need a rebuild VERY QUICKLY.

I tried to adjust the tv cable but I believe my "D" button is broken off, I dont feel it back there when I go to push it. Is there any solution for this or will I need a new one?

After the cable is adjusted the approximate shift points should be 15 to 18, 25 to 30 and 40 to 50 MPH at very light throttle depending on tire size and axle ratio. From link
