Thought I remembered a post some years ago about somebody on here that had a friend near Sacramento who transported vehicles, but can't seem to find it. I have a non-op Blazer that needs to be hauled 250 miles to my cabin in northern CA from San Francisco. I was thinking of hiring a private tow company to put it on a flatbed since an 18 wheeler can't get out to my cabin, but I don't know if they're able to haul outside of their jurisdiction. :dunno: Cost is not an issue since this has sentimental value. Ideas or alternatives?

Throw it on a uhaul car hauler and tow it up there. I'm assuming you have another k5 that runs right? I towed my 76 home from the mtns on a uhaul, went fine.

Tow companies usually will go outside of their normal areas, but towing that far will definitely cost ya. I'd just opt to rent my own trailer at the point, tow it myself.

I guess I should have mentioned that I don't have a vehicle I can tow with. I'm also a virgin with a trailor and this is not the time to be learning. I know it'll cost a lot, but it's a non-issue.

too bad it's non-opt or you could sign up for AAA and have them haul it.

I would do that anyway. Tell em "Idk it just wont start" lol. Tow truck driver wont know the difference as long as he can pull it up onto a rollback. And even if he notices something obvious with it I doubt he'll care. His company is reimbursed by AAA.

That's what I thought until I was denied once, I was F*cking pissed.

What the hell did they say? And what was missing that they noticed? Motor?

He looked at the tags, I had a blow out and no spare with me. I had the wife pick me up and I went back with my flat bed trailer. No way I was paying that bastard a dime after he pulled that.

He told me some crap about how AAA has been cracking down on them :dunno:

IIRC with the right AAA package you can even have people you are with towed as long as you have AAA and are present. And no I dont think you have to wait because you have a tow limit per year of service so you're free to use them all the first day if you like.

Don't have AAA. Thought you had to be a member for 6 months (can't wait that long) or something like that before they'd haul it.

I don't think so, that doesn't make any sense. I would look deeper into AAA since they offer a 250 mile tow package.

Yep, a friend of mine towed another friends car back to bay area after the kool aid man came through the side of his motor at the track.

Lol

So Im still not getting why they wouldnt haul your blazer?

Does it run and is just non op'd? For one, you could just go to DMV and buy a 1 way trip permit for like $17.

If you need it hauled, give me the details where it's at and where it's going and if it moves or not on it's own power. I can possibly haul it for you.

his blazer is non-op (reg is not current). Maybe these are terms only used in CA :doah:
That is not correct. His vehicle, if kept up to current, is currently registered as non operational.

For example, if you get pulled over for driving a vehicle that is currently non op'd, you'd get a ticket for improper registration, not a lack of registration. Also, if it was non op'd less than 6 months ago, you'd get a ticket. If the vehicle was non op'd over 6 months ago, an officer would likely impound the vehicle.

Lol a non-op registration. That state you guys live in.... :doah:

It's been no-oped for over 10 yrs and not started in as long. :eek1: Was going to put a new engine and tranny in it since they're beyond needing it but never found the time/funds to get to it. All that's about to change pronto.

That's an attractive offer ... I'll PM you.
