I might have found me an old swb truck. Its in Colorado and Im in Houston Texas.

Anyone know a good company that can transport this to me?...reasonably priced?....anyone here do this for a living?

I called around to transport a car some time ago from So Cal to Idaho. I went and picked it up and it cost me about 300 buck less than the lowest quote I got.

In addition the lowest quote I got did not guarantee a delivery time, it was when they had a truck in the area. Coulda been a day, coulda been 4 months

I drive commercial trucks for a living but I do food not cars.
I might be able to help if I do take on a job taking me to GA.
I will let you know soon if I do, but don't hold your breath keep looking.
Maybe you can post in the Hauling forum. :thumb:

One word of advice...DO NOT use a broker...make sure you use a company that uses their own trucks.
I made the mistake of using a broker once and got screwed; they advertised themselves as having their own trucks, but really didn't...
no one showed up to pick up my cars on the day they were supposed to....they kept telling me they would show up the next day for the next 2 days...i was moving from Oregon to Texas and had to delay it for 3 days after I had already rented a truck and had it loaded.
I was able to contact a hauler direct and set up him transporting the cars for me...because of his schedule, my cars showed up about 4 days later than planned, but that was ok because he was able to pick them up in short notice. I did rent a trailer and towed one car with me so I would have one when I got to Texas. He transported the other two.
I had a hard time getting the broker company to refund my $300 deposit...It took contacting Visa to get my money returned, but it was returned in three weeks.

Magic carpet. I used them to ship a K5 from CA to VA. It was $1270 I think. The truck showed up something like 4-5 days BEFORE it was supposed to be here. No damage. They get top reviews from everyone. I even changed the date on them like 5 times, once on the same day they were going to pick it up. No problems. No grief. No crazy fees. Nothing but good service.

I used "Uship.com" to haul my boat from Nevada to Colorado. It was cheaper than for me to drive the suburban over, pick it up and head back home again (gas only). Just be sure to check into their feedback, insurance, etc.

There is a guy on the Mastercraft Boat forum that does a lot of hauling for people. I don't know if this is up his alley or not but worth an inquiry....

"Maristar210" is his user name.

DO NOT USE DAS! Dependable Auto Shippers. It took them four weeks to deliver my Blazer from Nevada to San Antonio, and then dumped it off a an auto impound yard in a very bad neighborhood. The paint was ruined due to grease dropping from their trailer and sitting on the paint for those four weeks. They contracted to deliver it in 10 days. After two weeks, they stopped taking my calls inquiring where it was at. The impound yard finally called me and told me where it was and said if I didn't pick it up that day, I would be charged $85 a day storage. Needless to say I lost a days work when I had to take off and go get it.

The bad experience I had was with "All American Transport Company" based in Florida...there is another company called "All American Transport" that seems to be reputable and been in business since 1964.
"All American Transport Company" made their name similar to "All American Transport" so that people would mistake them for that company that has good ratings if you look them up.
It's easy to mistake the two when looking up reviews for them...that's what happened to me. Then later I found out the difference and what slime the All "American Transport Company" is.

Looks like "All American Transport Company" is now out of business...or changed their name again. I found that out later too...they have changed their name several times over the years when they get too many complaints.

It's wierd, I used DAS a couple of times to ship cars from CA to FL, no complaints on my part, they were cheap enough and told me it would be 3 to 4 weeks and was there in 3 weeks, both times.
$650 for a car CA to FL.:dunno:

Thanks, I was wondering who you used.

From: Grand Junction, CO → To: Houston, TX
for $990 (after $30 rebate)!

more than I thought it would be, but could be correct, I will check the others members listed too

Thanks alot eveyone for the advice and links, I will check into them tomorrow.

I also heard horror story after horror story about DAS, so I would avoid them. There are transport review sites out there, which is how I found Magic Carpet.

And while DAS may be good ... 3 weeks to go from CA to FL? It took just 4 days to get from CA to VA for my truck, and they told me it was going to take 8 days or something like that. I couldn't wait three weeks wondering what is happening to my truck...

The reason it may take more time is they need to fill up a truck on that route.
The reason they have the cheapest prices is they have dedicated runs that have no wasted miles no deadhead, so they need more time to fill that route.
They do not handle non runnig cars as far as I know either, because it too much of a hassle and couldn't be done for the cheap price.
To get you car shipped accross the nation in 4 days is reall luck or just amazing service that you probably paid for because it's a 4 day trip, which means they loaded your truck and headed east same day.
:dunno:

I guess it was worth it to me to pay a little more and not wait on some jokers to "fill" their truck. I'm not waiting to get my new truck. :D

The reason they have to "fill" their truck is because $1270 wouldn't have even paid for the fuel for a tractor trailer to go from Ca to Va... Their just trying to make a living, and many of them are going out of business.

Oh come on, I know that! There were at least 6 other cars on his trailer. They just didnt make me wait. :)

You have to remember when working with DAS that every time they "fill" the truck with a new vehicle they will pull yours off and back on to get weight to remain evenly spaced on the trailer. Thats one of the myriad of reasons they give.

They will hire any driver with a pulse too. tough company to work for.

well I have been waiting 6 days for magic carpet to pick mine up, they havent even contracted anyone to pick it up yet...no takers. They are just a job shop not a real trucking company with drivers...just office girls.

Anyone know a company based on the west coast or near Denver?

:dunno:
