Travel trailer hill climb test - She got a C-

MaxPF, a member here built that motor. A lot was custom, one off stuff. I don't remember all the details off the top of my head, but there was a 'build thread' of sorts for it. I'll find a link if someone doesn't beat me to it. On paper, this is one of the few 6.2's I'd ever consider 20+ lbs of boost being not that big a deal.

Found the thread for the 6.2 build. Unfortunately a lot, if not all the pic's are gone...it was pretty sexy according to my memory. Maybe Mikey still has a few of the pics and specs.

I have been wanting to do a new build thread here. I have this one over at the dieselplace.com with all the 6 2l pics and info. http:// http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-gm-diesel-engines/610-builds/690041-89-suburban-w-built-6-2-td-big-burb-aka-beast.html

Down and dirty, the bottom end is all studded with custom girdle. NOS 6.5L crank, timing gears, and fluid ampr balancer. Head studs are used up top. The valves are unshrouded with hardened seats dropping compression to 18:1. 1.7 big block roller rockers. Has Banks ps manifold, T04B turbo (banks), banks cross-over and downpipe and 4" Diamond Eye exhaust. Running serpentine belts and HO water pump. Have dmax fan and fan clutch. Fuel is pushed by a electric Carter pump through a racor filter. IP is freshly rebuilt db2-4911. Injectors and lines are stock, with my injectors freshly rebuilt (one was/is bad and I am running one mix matched).

And I take NO credit for most of the cool stuff. MaxPF built one bitching 6.2l long block, I was just the lucky guy that bought it.

I still hate you for that...:D but I'm glad it went to someone that is putting it to good use.

It only took me 5 years to start putting it to use. I was busy at the time, starting a new career, building our house, and making babies! :D

That's quite a list. Seeing as it has more in common with a 6.5 than with my stock 6.2 engines, why didn't he just start with a 6.5 block? :dunno:

6.5 block is weaker, what rpm are you at when you get it into 4th? I might have missed that but it almost seems like your to low to make boost and if that t04 is out of its range then it won't even start to spool on a 6.2 from what I have been reading they like a little more rpm and being a v8 and not a i6 I don't think they have the grunt as low unless you underturbo it but then your drive pressure goes up egt etc.. What's your exhaust like? Have you thought of trying some pane with a fogger type system to supplement when you needles power?

I don't have a tach, so RPMs are all calculated (grimmjeeper.com). I can pull the hill comfortably in 3rd at 42 mph, which is 2860 RPM. When I drop to 4th at that speed my rpm drops to 1672. My exhaust is a 3" banks downpipe going into a 4" diamond eye exhaust.

And yes, I believe he used the 6.2l block over the 6.5l for strength.

Yea at that rpm I'd say you are out of the range of any sort of power.. Like you said gears is the fix.. You might try and get a set of smaller rear tires like 30-31 inch and see if that helps before you swap gears..
