Treadwright Nightmare

I have a set of tires i would like to try on the road force. Located one about 4 miles from me.

For the price of them. I couldn't NOT try them. I mean seriously I bought six of them delivered for what I could get a single locally.

I ran a couple sets of treadwrights back in the day and they were great. Balanced as good as any new tire, but lasted longer. I assume you are using the same wheels your last tires were on. Otherwise, I would suspect an out-of-true wheel. It is possible the first shop messed up your wheel, so follow-up with a good visual inspection of both sides of each wheel.

How many of the 4 (or did you get 5?) won't balance? It's possible you just have one bad one or 2 bad ones and you don't have to return the whole set. I would jack up each corner with a "bad" tire and check them for roundness. This would be good information to get TreadWright moving. And yes, when things come up off-center, the tire should be rotated on the rim. It probably CAN be balanced with media (air soft, Dynabeads, Equal, etc.), which could be your cheapest solution at this point, but if they aren't round you still won't get a smooth ride. You don't need as much weight with media as you do with lead, since the weight will be out on the tire instead of way in on the rim.

Its sounding like the problems are from the "new" company which took over around a year or two ago.

Just have to make a comment about the rotating tires 180 degrees and road force balancing......if a tire requires almost 30 oz. of weight in one position I'm pretty sure rotating it 180 degrees is not going to solve the issue. Sure, it may be a little better but it's still going to take a lot of weight.

All four of the TWs would not balance and even if it were only 1 or two they said they wouldn't have any in stock for months so I wouldn't be able to get a complete set either way.

Got BFG ko2s mounted last night. I love em so far.

Been trying to call Treadwright all day to schedule pick up today but no answer. Maybe everyone's off for thanksgiving...

I know they had a really good rep when they were in SD. They used to guarantee the tires to take 5 oz or less to balance. If they didn't they would return them

One of the reasons I don't mail order most auto parts, warranty issues that may come up will be a hassle.

I ordered tires from Tirerack once, everything went fine, but just the extra hassle of getting a place to install and balance them, then if something happened to the tires, sending them back and going through all that crap you are now, I just spend the little extra money and have a tire store acquire, mount and balance them right there, if I ever have any other problems, I just go back to them. Has always worked just fine for me. :D

As it has been I just buy the tires I'm running for the Burb and the Avalanche at Discount Tire. Comparing tire prices around, they are pretty comparable with most places I would deal with.

Free rotations and re-balancing as well.

Exactly----TireRack has not offered to reimburse my balance fee($33 bucks on Hunter 9000 roadforce machine). i recently had to return a Goodyear eagle rs-a---could only get it to balance to 43 lbs! on roadforce.

In all fairness, i haven't had the time to call them back even though they left a message. i did leave them a message, but they never returned it. On top of that, i had to pay shipping back.

Again, only Michelins for me from now on.

Ok well sorry to keep dragging this thread out lol just wanted to let everyone know I finally got them to pick up the tires on 12/02. Tracking said they were delivered on 12/08. I got the refund on my card today 12/19.

It took me about a week of leaving voicemails in their warranty line until I finally had someone from the new orders department write them and email for me.

If nothing else, this was a good learning experience to not buy tires over the Internet and not to buy retreads lol.

I ended up with the new BFG AT2s and their pretty awesome tool almost no wwieght and they are dead silent on paved roads.

I apreciate everyone's comments and input on this thread. Hope yall have a great Christmas and New Years!
