I'm trying to replace the axles seals on a dana 44. I removed the 2 c clamps. I've tried to pry the carrier out, but it will not budge. I'm trying not to damage anything either.

Any suggestion on getting it out?

EDIT: Got it out. Thanks for the sugestions. I used a combo of them all, stuck a rag inb/t pinon and gear and tied a rope and hooked it up with hand winch tugged it right out. Good idea on leaving the clamps in so i didn't propel out on me.

It can be pretty tough but here's some of the tricks people have suggested.

1. Jamb a rag in between the ring and the pinion so they can't mesh together and then put a wrench on one of the ring bolts to try and turn it. The whole thing is then supposed to flop out.

2. Buy a case spreader

3. Use a big pry bar.

4. I was able to buy a big cheap C-clamp and cut part of it off to allow it to go behind the carrier and pulled it out.

I used a rag actually a couple. Then turned the pinion and it forced the carrier out. Make sure you have something for it to land on! Its heavy :wink1:

i just did this last weekend, i thought mine was kinda stubborn. i just used two large prybars about three feet long and me and a buddy just pryed with both inside the carrier and the fulcrum on the housing. i did it with the caps on so it wouldnt go flying.

Hi-Lift on the bottom of the case.

Rope around the carrier and on the highlift arm. 1 person holds the base of the highlift. one person cranks it. one person plays catcher.

funny I just did mine this past weekend as well. I turned the housing over with the opening towards the ground with a soft landing there, then hit it from behind:haha:, never mind, with a small sledge where the bearings are in the housing and it moved about 1/4" then flipped it back over and took the pry bar the rest of the way.
