tried to start camaro and it went chunk ...

Wait! I found one right here on CK5. I am such a pic whore....

Nice! I like how you left the body stock, most folks would add the GFX.

I'll refrain from showing pics... I have too many cars and several aren't very pretty yet :doah:

So I got the accel plugs in but cant get a box wrench on them, because the hex is too far in towards the head. I called accel and they suggested going to a motorcycle shop and seeing what they have for random spark plug tools. They said they had never heard of such a thing and told me to take my headers off to put my plugs in with a ratchet. I don't really want to do that, because my headers actually do not leak.

I may try to make something by welding a short socket onto the end of a box wrench?

ya need better sockets.. i'd bet a dollar my Snappie med deep sparkplug socket with the built-in swivel would work...

this, but med deep...

Not sure if you can get a spark plug socket on the plug or not, but I had issues with a set of headers, I was able to get the socket on the plug, but not the ratchet, I would use the wrench on the end of the socket to spin them in or out.

That would probably help with the outside ones, but the inside ones no way. I had a fingers space between the header and plug with the acdelco plugs, and now I have 2 fingers space, and I have small hands.

I thought about picking up a set of those sockets where the bolts come through the back of the socket...

You've tried the offset box wrench? Different than the typical box wrench, see pic.

With that depth/reach they can get to the hex on the plug no problem.

Yeah those look like they may work Brian. I have some Christmas gift certificates to sears maybe I'll have to do some tool shopping.

That's what I was talking about earlier. Still a pain in the arse installing plugs around header tubes, but those wrenches get it done.

Yeah... Headers seemed like a good idea at the time. I wouldn't waste my time or money on them again in one of those cars.

What headers do you have? Everybody knocks the Edelbrock headers, but I've loved every set of mine.

Anyway, there's a couple tools you should get and you will never have trouble changing plugs on a header equipped car or truck again. I'll get some pics in a minute.

I have edlebrocks. They fit well but the ceramic coating sucks & I can't warranty them because they don't make them anymore. I have put hookers on a Chevy truck before and they went in real easy and sounded awesome but they were long tubes and there was a ton of space around them. My edlebrocks didn't make any significant change to my exhaust sound which was the main reason I got them.

You are sure giving me a reason not to add headers to my Z. I pulled plugs today and it took me all of 10 minutes per side. Good luck, but a heavy offset wrench like those above should be able to do it.

With the right tools, it's no problem. I can change mine just as easy as with the stock manifolds, actually faster since there's no air injection tubes in the way. And as for the stock manifolds... they are the log design and SUCK. The only use for them is a stock application.

And I can't get my pics to load, but I'll try again tomorrow.

The are still air tubes on my headers though they are plugged. They are not in the way of the plugs though and were not In the way On my manifolds before? My engine is essentially stock with a small cam and balancing. It does also have the stock ho aluminum gm intake and a stock gm lightweight flywheel. I don't think the headers made the car any faster or effiecient. The only diff I have with my rebuild is i feel comfortable pushing 7000 rpms.

Don't get me wrong, but at least for now I just don't see enough room under there for them. Pulling mine, with stock headers, I had to ditch the air tubes anyway, just to be able to get into them. The driver's side sucks to get to, and I am sure when I finally get the engine I want in there (LSX 454), it is going to be worse.

Never cared for the air tubes anyway, usually one of the first things I ditch. In this case, since the engine doesn't run, it was quick and easy to pull them right from the get go.

I have all the other air stuff off. You can't remove air tubes from mye headers it's all one piece. At the time it was the only option for ceramic and shorty with a y pipe that went to the cat. Now there's stainless and titanium idk if one of those is a better bet for preserving aesthetics.

The air tubes come straight up, and out of the way of the spark plug access. On the manifolds, the poke out the side then point up, which puts them in the way.

Here's what I use all the time to change plugs on my header-equipped trucks and Camaros:

The little socket is from Snap On and is a VERY valuable tool. I also have another 5/8 stubby wrench (very slight offset box end) and a similar socket that has an offset 3/8 drive on the end. Both are from Snap On and don't get used very often. The offset drive socket is VERY useful for 4.3 S10 pickups though, where the steering shaft is in the way.
