triple axle Jimmy

Re: triple axle Jimmy (now with pics!!)

Your best investment is a thorough inspection. It must be tough with so little to choose from there.

Re: triple axle Jimmy (now with pics!!)

you're right about the not being used to American trucks....when I bought my little Suzuki SJ, I fired her up, and then fired her up again becouse I thought she wasn't running.

But at gas/petrol costing some £1.30 a litre it's not surprising! Still the way I see it is that by buying my 1984 Blazer for £2400 ($4000...I know, I know, alot of money!!) it's not going to depreciate in any real terms over the next 10-20 years if I look after it. In fact, I have seen a few equivalent Blazers around for twice the price so I may have bought a car that has actually increased in value.

If I'd bought a new 4x4, I would have paid some $40,000, and it would be worth $20,000 after two years...that $20,000 would buy alot of diesel....

Re: triple axle Jimmy (now with pics!!)

Kia,

That truck looks really nice...esp. like the paint job on the hood...the way the blue runs up the middle with the white strip down middle middle.

Just a bit of advice:

- the truck will most likely have a 700r4 4 speed box in it. It's a crap g/box, but you will need it if you donlt want to take a mortgage out for fuel. See if there are any receipts for a rebuild and how recently. If it's never been rebuilt, or not within the last 5 years/100k miles, budget another £1000 for a new gearbox (I know a good place in Chadwell Heath that will do the work for you, and they are pretty much the cheapest around, other places will cost you £1500+).

-you should be able to tell iff the box is on it's way out by checking the fluid colour/smell. Also, make sure that you view the car from cold. If it takes more than one second to engage reverse from cold, then your like to be losing the box soon. Take it for a drive, stick lever in OD, and in any gear, floor the skinny pedal. It should kick down smoothly. Mine would try to kick down, but not engage any gear, but only in OD. The gearbox is a good bargaining point. If it hasn't got a recent rebuild, then ask for at least £500 of (I got mine reduced form £2900 to £2400 on the basis of the box).

- MOT: mine sailed throught the MOT. Only probs were knackered wiper and sticking caliper. Apart from that, just check it all over, oil leaks etc etc. It really is like a rock.

Let me know how you get on, if I'm in London on the day you're going to have a look, I don;t mind tagging along for a bot of advice if you want, let me know.

Cheers

Re: triple axle Jimmy (now with pics!!)

Kia,

I have a turbo400 that has been sitting in my lockup for a year. It also comes with a 205 t-case attached. If you ever need a new box and want to junk the 700 for the stronger 400 (but remember no OD), then you can buy the stuff off me for £100, gbox and tcase. You could have drop that combo in, convert to LPG to keep fuel costs down...

Anyway, I don't think saw your number in a mail, I may be in London Tuesday/Wednesday for a few meetings. Where's the truck? Central London/City, or further out? I wouldn't mind having a look if I can get out of work...

Cheers
