I have the ORD doubler setup with the triple stick. I swapped out the black plastic knobs for some nice billet WFO Concepts knobs. Even with the rubber boot down below, I have this vibrating rattle that drives me nuts as I am doing highway time. Low speeds, no big deal, but 55 mph and up, it is obnoxious. It is tough to tell if it is the knobs rattling or all the heim connections down below at the doubler. I've tried putting pipe tape wrap on the threads of the knobs, filling the empty space on the knobs with RTV, etc. and no luck so far. Anybody else run into this?

I've got the ORD black knobs and don't notice any rattling in that area. Plenty of other areas though. :wink1:

Did you try putting the black knobs back on and seeing if it goes away?

Try pulling all the sticks back and see if the rattle goes away.

I found in my old Ford truck that after a few years of DD the linkage loosened up and rattled. I kept a shop towel wedged between the sticks and it stopped the rattle.

it's probably just a bit of sloop that you have developed and now they rattle.

sounds like drivetrain vibration caused by an out of balance driveshaft. This happens when you lift a truck, and do not modify the driveshafts for the increased angle of operation caused by a suspension lift.

If you have a custom driveshaft made to the proper length, with a double-cardan joint on the trans slip yoke side of the driveshaft, the rear diff angled correctly to keep the angle of operation at that u-joint to less than a 3-degree angle, and the whole new driveshaft assembaly balanced this should correct the problem of your entire trans and transfer case vibrating while going down the highway.

Yea, I doubt it's actually the shifters making the noise. Likely the d-shaft. My twin stix are home brew. I cut a thin piece of old leaf spring bushing off and put it on the pivot bolt between the shifters cuz it just looked like it'd rattle like crazy.

I am going to have to try that. Simple test but I should do it to rule it out if it isn't the problem. If it is the knobs, that would suck because I really like the WFO ones.

Both front and back driveshafts are HAD's with 1450's in the rear and 1350's up front. They are balanced and installed properly. When I welded in new rear perches on the Corp14ff, I set the pinion angle just right. I've checked it since and it is spot on still.

I am highly suspicious that it is the assemblies down below making the noise, or at least a large portion of it. I'll have to address the slop and see what happens.

I had an old cable maintenance truck that did that only it started at 20mph. We have this rubberized tape that is used in splice cases. Pretty thick stuff. I wrapped some of that stuff around the stick and it made a big difference. Might help in your situation if the DS's arent the problem. I dont think you'd find the same kind of tape at the hardware store, but anything rubberized would do it, a little on the linkages and a layer on the sticks.

That is sweet, what it that from? I suppose I could put that shrink tubing on the levers and heat it up. I have a feeling though that it is all the movement down below where the different connections are and it is transferring up the shafts. I would have thought that the rubber boot would diminish some of it but not so.

w.r.t your avatar, "Meatloaf again?"

The WFO knobs wouldn't rattle if you have the jam nuts tightened ... but they might hit each other if the shafts were moving around a lot, due to slop. Easy to tell -- remove the knobs, or just wrap a sock around each with duct tape. That sh!t fixes everything, I tell ya.

I can't imagine that the added weight of the billet shifters over the plastic makes a difference.

No, I betcha it is the linkage to the shifters ... let's talk about motor, transmission, and transfer case mounts. All rubber? Fairly soft? Did you do the side brace on your '205, by chance, which means that it's mechanically coupled to the frame?

Lots of sources for vibration, many of which you can't change, but maybe at least limit.

I was just messing around really.. it's NWF cable shifter setup for the doubler.. about $380 smackers...

I'm gonna run their twinstick on mine due to my console setup...

I like that setup. Would it work with my ORD doubler? For DrEmu, jam nuts are very tight. I removed the knobs, put pipe tape on the threads, and filled in the empty space on the knobs with RTV. Transmission and motor mounts are all brand new but no side brace for the 205, my model didn't come with the holes tapped. I think it is the linkage below so I will start by taking the knobs off and test it. Then I will see if I can limit the movement of the linkage. I don't believe I have any excessive vibration anywhere, just the normal movement. I can rest my hand on the knobs while driving and it goes away mostly.

NWF was having a lot of problems with their cables coming apart (many times during initial installation), did they fix that?

hmmmm, don't know.. haven't really heard any "after install" stuff, I don't visit Pirate very often..... they just looked like they'd be killer....

I just did a quick search on Pirate and it appears they may have fixed the issue by switching suppliers in May. It's a neat product but you might research them a little before purchasing.

(Note: I'm not knocking NWF's products, just informing buyers. I have some of their other products myself and love them)

I'm going to get those for my doubler next year. I'm doing so I can make a custom console to install them right next to the seat. I'm short and dont like having to lean over to throw it in 4wd.:D

NWF seem to have fixed the cable issue. Had a manufacture that was crimping them wrong. First good tug on them and they would pull apart.
