Hey, I resemble that remark :wink1:

I'm a shirt and tie guy with bachelor's degree during the week for work. It's amazing how many funny looks I get when I tell people I belong to a truck pull organization and do demolition derbies. I get even funnier looks when I tell people I actually like to work on cars and trucks......most of the people I work with have a mechanic on speed dial.

To each their own I guess

Thats me aswell :D

I'm more of the shirt no tie though :waytogo:

do you feel safe running 44s at 70mph???

They are DOT approved and the speed limit is 75mph here on the interstate. If the tires were dangerous at that speed then they would not be DOT. However at 70 I don't like the vibes so I usualy run at 65mph (truck speed limit)

The rig itself handles amazingly well on road. If the tires would ballance better I could actualy do the speedlimit no problem...

well i run 4low and 2nd and it pulled great. i pulled 202.8 and got 8th in the street modified class. the bad thing is i broke at 202.8. had axle wrap bad and bound the rear ujoint breaking it and bent the spring perchs.

i have pics and video that i will post later.

Glad to hear it pulled good. Sorry for your breakage. Now you know where to do some work.

how heavy was the sled?

the sled it self is 29,000 lbs and there were 3 1800 lbs blocks in it. the sled got real heavy just before it broke. the rear hoped and then broke. the spring perches and ujiont will be fixed tonight and tomorrow, the yoke will be replaced as soon as i can find one.

pics and the video will be posted this weekend, we brought the wrong cable to upload them to my computer. :doah: :doah:

do you have any other pics of your rig rcurrier44? that thing looks badass, that is something along the lines of what i am wanting to build.

Good you had fun, bad you broke.
Went to a pull in Alpena this weekend. I ran in the 8,000lb street legal diesel class. Pulled 261' would have been a 7th place but I was from out of the area and pulled for fun, no money. I was 800-1000lbs under weight and my hitch was 5" lower than allowed. Don't think I did too bad considering, 3.54s and an auto. Shifted at 3300 and held 2nd,low at 2700.

Personally I'm thinking auto for street class. Sticks have way more wheel hop issues and parts breakage. Infact on Cummins guy I talked to had converted his truck from a auto to NV4500, no motor changes, and has broke more since. Now he is talking about going back to an auto. Some CTDs and PSDs shifted up to 3rd, more mods or gear than I had!

My truck has stock rear suspension and showed no signs of wheel hop. Massive spring compression :eek1: however.

there were two guys in my class that killed there th400 in 1 pull, they were both running big blocks though, like just about everyone else in my class. i ended up 8th out of 14 or 15 and only 4 including me were running small blocks.

i got the video and pics uploaded to my comp, just need someone to host the video for me.

I won't clutter up the thread to much...and this is definatly not built to be a pullin truck. The rig is just your classic K5/Toy hybrid setup. I have run this setup for 4 years come september. I had built the drivetrain while it was a K5 but eventualy the K5 body got so bad (and I wanted it lighter) so I went to the hybrid setup. Its main purpose is to wheel in deep snow...but it works well as a rock crawler and all around trail rig.

There are a bunch more photo's in the Mountaineers section over on M4x4A.org.

If you ask real nice I'll host it for you for a while as long as it's no bigger than 150-200MB. I'm more worried about disk space than bandwidth.

Looks like you got about 175FT? Engine sounded good.......

That rear end hopping was certainly the culprit for the carnage, but at least you got a good reaction from the crowd!!!!

Weld on a couple of beefier perches, replace the yoke with a u-bolt style one to get rid of those straps, and maybe come up with an anti-wrap bar solution before the next event and I think you'd be STYLIN' :thumb:

Thanks for sharing the vid!!!

it was actually 202.8, the guy driving the sled didn't start at the 0 sign.
Engine sounded good.......
thanks, i have a lot of money in that motor. and the least amount posible in the exhaust (dual 2.5" bent using a HF pipe bender and $17 cherry bomb turbo IIs)
No shocks???
yes no shocks. ive been running with no rear shocks for a long time. tried to get everything done the night before including the shocks, but we desided that 5am was bed time when we had to get up at 8am. i had the shocks in the bed with the hardware.

as for the spring perches, i have some 2.5" .250 wall square tube that im going to cut at 8" and cap the ends with 5/16". thats the way i should have went the first time. i did a shackle flip and cut the factory perches off and welded these on that i got from the local parts store, they are the same as one guy sells on ebay as a heavy duty spring pad for 14bff,d60,etc.

well i got the rear axle out, got a question for you guys. when i took the ubolts out, the rear half was bent a few degrees about 1.5" from the top. should i replace the ubolts? im thinking they streched but am not sure.

also, when its easier to beat the spring perches off than a stock steering arm on a 10 bolt/d44 with out cutting the welds, is that bad? (took like 8 hits with my 4# hammer) i should have did it at my house using my welder, but my buddy insisted on me doing it at his house with his welder (it had ALWAYS welded like crap when ever i used it, i think he had his polarity reversed)

U-Bolts generally should not be re-used.....

In your case, I don't think it's "OPTIONAL". Replace them. :wink1:

Hey TJ you redneck looks like fun, i guess what they say about the ubold straps are true, need some ubolts:crazy:

you truck always pulls good, like that gid hill at the mounds you did great!

when did you put the blue box on? i dident think yours was that bad, i thought you would get front fenders frist:wink1::wink1:
