Ok, I am looking at buying a '74 that's in Arizona. I need to know if these pics show the value of the truck. I am looking into shipping it but need some opinions on the value before I buy. I hate the idea of buying something sight unseen. Anyone out there help me?

tailgates not original to truck (See the red), looks to have rust in it thats ready to pop out, may have been bondo'd over. Just my opinion.

There is enough rust on that blazer that i doubt it's an original Arizona rig. You better have someone pull the floor matting back at the rear near the tailgate and inspect there for rust, seen many that the rear floor was about gone. California, Arizona, and Texas rigs usually don't have ANY rust on them.

I can see that the tailgate was red, and I know the truck isn't spotless. I guess what I'd like to know, is if that truck is worth $1400? I was kinda hoping someone on here was around that area (Bullhead City Az.) and could take a look at it for me.

the guy told me it came from California....hmmm.

Well that could explain the rust. Bullhead City is along the Colorado river.

I'd love to go out there and look at it in person, but it's 1840 miles away! I really don't care too much about the drivetrain, but rather the body isn't ready to rot off the frame.

It does look like it may have been gone over *bondoed* at some point. If you are looking for a rust free truck, I'd keep looking. If your looking for a good wheeler with the cool factor of bieng a 74 for a reasonable price, it's probably OK. I guess it all depends what you want out of the truck.

Yeah, I plan to wheel it. My '90 is a rust bucket and I will not waste my time repairing it. I had planned on swaping my axles, lift, and other stuff over. I am not looking for something that's perfect, otherwise I would have a hard time wheeling it. The '90 has gotten so bad, that I can't lower my rear gate. :doah:

A long way and alot of work for a wheeler. I'd ditch the tailgate and start replacing body with tube on the 90. I think you would be time and money ahead for just a wheeling rig.

I see a lot of bondo around the wheel wells. $1400 is not a bad price for a '74 though. Except shipping a vehicle is really expensive so it's not going to be $1400 when you get it.

I know, I'm not sure what to do. I really want a full vert and I am not worried abotu replacing a little sheetmetal. I also want to retain on road capability, so cutting what's left of the '90 up and welding a bunch of tube in it doesn't fit my plans.

Rust residue bleeding through the paint usually means the bondo is covering up rusty metal. There's a big difference between no "visible" rust and "rust free".

Why not fly out and drive it back?

Tickets are $150 each and my dad already said he'd go. But I'm leary about a 1800 mile trek with a 35 yr old truck I know nothing about. Plus, if it got close to 12 miles to the gallon and gas at $3 per gallon, I'd have over $750 in getting it back here. Believe me, I would rather do that, but not sure how reliable this truck is.

I bet that column is retrofitted from a newer truck . Don't know much about those years, but i DO know that steering wheel wasn't offered until 89 or 90.

As already mentioned. I see rust bleeding between bondo and sheet metal. Looks to khave had a cheep single stage paint spryed on it as well. For someone selling a rust free truck i'd have a CK5er look at it in person before going any further.

Having a rust free truck shipped across country is way cheaper than trying to rebuild an original rust belt truck, especially if street use is a priority. Even if it's going to be a wheeler or cut and modified, starting with a solid body truck makes things a whole lot easier. I got mine from TX but it was already in New England saving me the shipping.

That particular 74 looks a bit too rusty for the total price after shipping. That truck has been painted and stuff is bubbling up from under the paint. This leads me to believe something is hiding under the paint. I would be looking for pics of the cargo area with the mat pulled up to the wheel wells at least, pics of the floor in front of the rear wheels, pics of the body mounts. Doors for that truck are hard to find too, at least here in the rust belt. Can the 1/2 cab doors be modded to fit the full vert? I would want pics of the bottoms of the doors, maybe they can be repaired. If you're really set on the full vert I suppose $2k is decent if it doesn't need too much work. Myself, I would be looking for a newer 1/2 cab with less questionable spots for that price. But that's me.
