Truck value...looking at one that's out of state (Bullhead City)?

That truck looks to be a rust bucket waiting to happen, if moved to the rust belt. The price may be OK, but in general, it would be a gamble.

Also, that is not a newer steering column, just a newer wheel. I don't think they are that rare, as both of my 77's have tilt and cruise.

I might be in that area Friday. I could take a look at it for you.

That price looks a little high to me. I bet you could pick it up for 1k.

I should know tomorrow if I am going to get over that way.

That would be great if you are. I would like a few pics of body mounts, the rear seat foot areas and floor boards in general. I can give you the guys contact info and also something for your time & effort. Please let me know.

Thanks,

That bondo is covering tons of rust. My truck was from NY, went to CT, CO, and FL before it came to CA and mine doesnt have NEAR the spots that thing has..... my rockers and fender arches are still solid. Sure, it came from CA... I can say that about mine at this point too.....

walk away, rust free starters aren't too rare.

I see tons of rust free trucks out here, set a list of parameters and I can help you look.

For an example of whats out here and price wise, I picked up an 86 blazer for around 700 or so iirc. Guy drove it to my house even!

Ive also seen and met a few original owners out here too with stock clean blazers. They are out here, hard ones to find are original..non lifted, original owner and then garaged.. but they are here and time to time they pop up.

My eye is always open and here in az blazers are EVERYWHERE still. I see a full vert or two on the road everyweek and a crap load of blazers daily.

Post a want list, be a weeee bit patient time wise and we can find you a perfect one for your needs.

If I could get my hands on one as clean as the one you posted, I would probably forgo the full vert. Here's what I have now, my '90 is a bucket. It is way too far for repair. The tailgate is so rotten, I can't really open it anymore. Now, I plan to wheel whatever I get, but not to the point I'm bouncing it off of rocks & trees. It will be mud, sand, and hills. I will swap my axles along with a few other parts to whatever I end up with. I'm not opposed to a clean roller. I will be shipping it (obviously) so it can have motor/trans issues. Price, well ideally I'd like to keep the purchase price to no more than $1500-1900. I'm not sure if this is doable, but shipping quotes are gonna be at least $700-800. I'm not in a rush, because at this point I wouldn't start to work on it till spring. Did I forget anything?

Shawn, thanks for your time

If you are going to wheel it, then why not consider buying a newer one and making it into a full vert. There is an article on here that outlines the process. Also I think there is a windshield frame in the classifieds.

If your father is willing to go with you, then why not fly, or ride (bus) and take a look. Even if you have to come back without it, it would still be a nice trip with your father. If you have to drive it back 1800 miles it will be a trip you'll remeber the rest of your life.

I know exactly what you ar talking about. My dad just bought a Corvette this summer and he and flew out to Jersey to get it. It was a memory I'll have forever. But with that being said, money dictates all. It will by far be cheaper to have it shipped.

I really would only cut a half top up if there is just no other options.

I feel the same way about cutting a half-top, just throwing out another option. I have a 76 with pratically no rust which is good for SC. I was reading and in 76 chevy started using a zinc primer (I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong) in rust prone areas that helped to slow the rusting of the trucks. I have two 75's and they are solid, but you can definetly see a difference between the 2 models.

Oook well that makes more sense. I did not know your intentions or plans with it.

The windshield frame swap is easy and if you are not hung up on having a 70's front sheet metal, that should open the doors up to find one in great shape.

As for shipping, while I'm not going to say you wont find someone to ship a non running truck for that cheap, the selection of carriers would sure be narrowed! Many trucks here will have interior neglected or in need or some help, if you can find one with a great body Im sure nice interiors are more common on the east coast.

Ill keep my eye out or feel free to post up a link to one in az if you find a clean one in the phoenix area. I have a pretty broad work territory and like to get camera happy.

After more thought, my first choice would be a 70's front clip. I will keep looking too & be in touch if I find something. Thanks again for your help Shawn.

Looking like maybe saturday.

How do I get ahold of you if I do go?

Thanks again John! It was great talking to you and I can't tell you enough how grateful I am that you were able to go check it out. The help of fellow members is what makes this one of the best forums out there.

I've decided that I'm gonna pass on this one. I now realize though that I definitely want a 70's truck and really would like to wait for the right full vert. Keep your eyes peeled and let me know if you come across anything that looks rust free. I'm not worried too much about drivetrain or interior. Just want a rust free truck that doesn't need to be seperated from the frame to make it right.
