Truck won't start SOLVED!

Thanks, I thought so, but I really am a fuel system noob.

Thanks, I will go back through the line, but I an starting to think that it is a fuel pump problem and that ain't gonna be cheap...

I would drop the tank first thing and also check the hose that goes from the pump to the sender, that might have a rip or hole in it and then it won't allow proper fuel flow. That hose by the way is special hose called submersible fuel hose and IS NOT the same as your regular fuel hose. :deal:

I have been chasing a similar problem. Mine would start and run fine, then die and no fuel to the injectors. It would fire once in a while like it was out of gas. I poured 2 gallons in, and hooked up the fuel pump tester. No pressure, but lots of gas on the tank side of the filter. New filter, same thng. When I dropped the tank, there was over five gallons in the tank. Pump would deliver fuel, but no pressure.
Now it's too hot (117* today) to work on it so it will be a week or so till I find out if a new pump fixes it.

I'll be interested to know how yours works out.

Thanks, great info! The tank is (mostly) down, but it is too dark for tonight...

I hope the new pump fixes the fuel problem. Then I can find out if the engine is worth saving or if I put the new one on the stand in it.

My problem was NOT the fuel pump. I installed a new pump and was beginning to think it was bad, but then the truck died and would not start. No spark. Followed the diagnosis chart and glory be, the ignition module was bad. I guess it worked just enough to let it start and run real bad. It finally failed completely. The truck has been hard to start for a long time, I guess since I put a new distributor in it. But now a good used module and she runs fine. Well, as good as it ever has. Now to find out if it is valves or flat cam.

Thanks for the info. I have my tank dropped, but have not pulled the pump yet. Were you getting fuel to the throttle body? How do you test the ignition module?

Solved! The 2" piece of hose at the top of the fuel pump was blown. Now all I have to do is find a piece and I am good to go.

WINNER! :thumb: Thanks guys!

Just be sure to get in tank hose or you'll be in the same situation again. What size do you need? I may have some from my fuel cell build.

Here was mine last year before other more serious issues, never seen this until I tore it apart after other diagnosing and fuel pressure checking determined something wasn't right with the pump system...

Not sure HOW that split got in tere, this was a fairly new pump, not more than a year & a half or so. Not many miles either because the motor & trans were essentially deal for quite some time, non-driveable.

You can buy it at any auto parts store BUT the stuff is usually only sold by the foot and it's like $25.00/ft.

Doesn't sound all that bad. I'd pay that much to add 12 inches..............
