Truckasaurus. The rebirth and resurrection of a fallen legend

Ha ha. You found me! I have multiple handles.

On another note, I just got off the phone with American Auto Wire. Those guys are fantastic. I have been slowly going through the kit figuring it out as to what goes where and had a few questions about kill switches, ignition routing, accessory channels, etc etc and they answered everything.

Feeling much better about the wiring plan now. I knew it would get sorted, but it is gonna feel so good to know exactly where everything is and where it all goes.

Haha yup! I dig the truck. I love that orange on the motor!

Wiring harnesses spook me. I havent had to do one yet but i can imagine getting lost easily.

The truck is looking great dude!

Not sure if I missed it but what kit did you use from American Auto Wire? I was thinking about doing the same thing for mine since I'm getting a harness made for my LS swap anyways but wasn't sure who to go with yet.

Wiring is not as daunting as I thought it would be. I think just replacing everything is actually easier than trying to splice. That is why I am doing a new ignition and headlight.

What is cool about the kit is the fuse panel will have about 6 open slots that I can use for accessory. Just verify the draw I will be putting through and plan the fuse accordingly.

I did start wiring up and terminating some of the runs yesterday and hope to get ignition etc in today.

I had done a Ron Francis harness for my gauges when I was going with the panel I had made and it didnt work with the new setup. Fortunately the kit I got came with a harness so I reworked all the gauges last night.

Is it possible to keep the stock keyed ignition without too much rewiring?

If I end up going with the kit I will be replacing EVERYTHING with the new harness.

Yes of course. They provide a key and ignition but you can just wire direct into the harness to the old ignition. They even make a provision in the kit for it. I just like the kit key and ignition and removing some of the extra stuff on the column was worth it. Being able to route other theft deterrent devices is my other workaround.

So I got a bunch of the wires terminated, cut to length and the fuse panel mounted. Replaced the broken brake light switch, installed the dimmer switch and finished up all the dash ignition wiring. Need to replace the turn signal mechanism in the column and then most of the dash wiring will be done.

Stage two will be running all the sensors, lighting, accessories, and body electrical.

Stage three will be the engine harness and electricals

Time to get the trans up and in. Had to order the correct trans to TC adapter but everything lined up.

Question, there is a small port on then bottom of the bellhousing. Is that where I am supposed to tighten the torque converter to the flywheel? Doesn't look like it lines up great with the bolts at this point. Will have to take another look when it is together.

no...go through the starter hole to tighten the torque convertor bolts, then install starter

I use that hole to stick a pry bar in and turn the flexplate.

Cheers man. Been a long time coming. Had this truck for 20 + years and knew someday I would build it up. It is addictive though, once you start you keep finding things to improve.

What adapter did you use between your transmission and t-case? Thanks
