So I'm trying to geth the bog ol' caddy going in the project but it just want fire up. Now I know 100% that it runs. I drove the truck it came out, swapped the motor into the project and now nothing. I can make it run dumping gas down the carb but it only goes until it burns up the gas. I do have a clear filter between the pump and the carb and I get no gas in there. So Obviously the pump isn't pumping. I need to problem solve this in the morning. I'm guess one of the lines has to be wrong but what else could I look for.

I have 4 lines coming from the tank: I'm guesing 1.) feed 2.) return 3.) breather 4.) breather for the filler neck

and at teh pump I have 2 lines again I'm guessing: 1.) from tank in to pump 2.) out of pump to carb 3.) return to tank

Also I thought about just forgetting the mechanical pump all together and swaping in an electric but they only have 1inlet and 1outlet. Can I run it without the return

Return line? You don't normally use a return line on a carb setup do you?
Sounds like you have put a carb engine into a fuel injected vehicle. If so, you have some more work to do.

nope didn't do that. 77k5 wasn't ever fuel injected. The return line eas to help prevent vapor locking and also a safety thing so if the pump broke the fuel would drain back to the tank.

some GM engines did have a return fuel line, on a carb'd engine.
