Pretty much every tire made doesn't measure to what they claim.

My unlce had a set of baja claw radials.... awesome sand, hill climb, and rock tire, but they suck in mud. LOUD as hell and they wear real fast.

Irok radials won't last as long as the tsl radial but its a better offroad tire.

Get some ssr's if you can afford it.

Nowhere else have I seen anything positive about Ground Hogs.
I love my Hawgs. The have gone through mud where my friend with Boggers was stuck. I conducted my own tire test using my Hawgs, my TSL SX's, and my General Grabber MT's. All three were used in the mud and the Hawgs were by far the best. I haven't had them on any trails or rocks though, and that seems to be where people have complaints.

dont ground hawgs actually measure a reasonable amount smaller than they are?
Yes. My 38.5" Hawgs measure only 37" inflated and not on the truck. My 40's that I had measured only 38".

Yah thats true SSRs would be good for mostly street driving but still be able to pull their own off road. Plus having had both I can say that SSRs are a superior tire to a swamper radial on icy roads

dont know how much you want to spend but once you get to 38's your spending the bank anyway. with that said, one of my best friends has Parnelli Jones dirt grips. the last 18 months with close to 10kmiles on them and they are still like 80%. they are smooth on the road have a nice hum and do great off road. his are actualy 38x15x16 but ill bet they make a 15 too. they are a little on the expencive side, but seam to be wearing very well for a 38 and they are a radial. they seam to be as good as most smaller tires for roundness and balance. witch is good for a 38 my 38x1250x16.5 tsl radials never did balance very well. i think they was more out of round than out of balance. just my 2 cents.

one of my boat customers runs around in a F350 with 10"s of lift and 38 Dirt Grips... he really likes them, but says they are loud.. which kinda suprised me... good looking tire tho...

i do not understand how hawgs in place of boggers tires being same size on the same truck in the same exact same circumstance would be better. boggers have a much more agessive tead pattern :screwy:

i also am plannign on runing two sets of tires. which comes in handy in many cases. always have spares in the truck (whole set of spares at that). the bfg at's great for road, ice/snow, sand. the ssr's good for mud, dirt, woods, and still on road sometimes since they are radials. and they are less expensive than a lot of tires. especially in my size of 31's ;)

i have 35 toyo m/t radials on my k5 and my bro has the 38 toyo m/t on his k1500 and they are an excelant on road tire. they are good in snow and rain, unlike swanpers. the toyo is also very quiet for a mud tire. ( as loud as a bfg at) they also look cool, but not as cool as bogger

There's too many other variables! You have to run the same size tires at the same air pressure on the same truck with the same driver thru the same mudhole on the same day! :D

If you're choosin' between those two tires, I'd go swamper. I don't like directionals, can make things difficult if you get a flat and have to swap tires around or soemthing. I think the swamper might be tuffer too.

If not, I think I might try something more street-friendly, prolly the Toyos.

IMHO, not to dis anyone, but I think the Hawg is kinda a redneck-lookin' tire. How long have they had that 70's looking tread? If they do in fact wear good, and you like the look, you might try them.

Just remember, when lookin fer tires, not everything everyone says is factual (see my other reply about comparisons)

HAVE FUN! :D

Paul, I know you bought a set...but did you ever run them or wheel with them? I thought you sold that truck before the tires ever got mounted?

The only people that seem to like ground hogs are a select few on Pavementsucks.com. Nowhere else have I seen anything positive about Ground Hogs.

thats my point kinda... like who really can say for sure the hawgs would go through moe than boggers?

wasnt it about swampers and baja claws?
i run tsl radials in the 33" size, ive put about 40 km on em and theyre still like brand new
and i love em
theyre ussually a bit better priced then claws
and being up in snowy canada ive had no real problems with them on ice
i knew what i was buying and i knew id have to be lite on the gas when i bought them
so go for tsl's in my opinion

Ask B_to_C here about Claws. They do good off-road, but they are just crap on-road. Uneven wear, fast wear, hard to balance.

I would hope after 40 km they would look brand new:haha: .

Or did you mean 40K miles:D

Just stirin the pot.

When I get new tires I will be going with Bias TSLs Mainly due to the hassle of directional tires as stated earlier.

If he said Dirt Grips are loud he would go crazy from swampers.:eek1:

I run Dirt grips and I love them compared to the swampers I had before they are very quiet. They also balanced easy, ride smooth and work well off road (they arn't boggers but the do good).

I have about 5k miles on mine and they look brand new and my buddy had a set and got over 30k miles out of them.

I would seriously look at these tires.
