I recently ran over a large shard of glass while on a trail. The tire place said it was too long of a cut to patch successfuly... The cut is on the tread, NOT on the side wall. The tires are 33X12.50R15 Pirelli Scorpion AT's which are no longer in production, not to mention the tread is still at close to 100%. I was curious if anyone had an oppinion on putting a tube in there and running it like that??? The truck does see on-road as well as off-road driving. I just dont really feeling like buying all new tires, and it kills me that these tires still have so much tread on them. And I already tried finding a replacement tire and couldn't.

what i did with one of my old tires is use a bigger patch like we use to patch backhoe tires with. they cover alot more area. i used to have a set of those tires myself. not bad tires. can't really see in the pic but it's those exact tires except for 31's

For all around use in many terrains , with lots of street driving , BFG A/T's are really good . Tri-guard sidewall , and flexes well aired down .

Whatever tires you buy , you need to use a place like Discount or other outlet with a good warranty . I punched a hole in one , AND COST ME 29.99 PLUS TAX TO REPLACE IT .

What tire costs $29.99??? haha

I was just lookin at patches online and I found some 5"X5" patches... I think that would work wouldn't it? The cut its self is about 2 inches long in the tread. It isn't wide because the force from the rest of the tire holds it together. I think I'm ganna have to talk with those tire people again... I think they just want me to buy a tire from them!

that's probably what they want. hell i'd try the patch and if that didn't work you're not out that much. i don't see what it'd hurt at all

I've heard of people using the heavyduty tire repair patches for construction vehicles with very good results. Course the kit was like $300. It was used to patch a huge gash in a new 44" bogger. Required a torch etc.

yeah its not that intence of a cut! But I did just talk to the people and they said they wouldn't do it so now I'm ganna call around!

all you need is a grinder, glue, wheel patch thing (looks like wheel with handle on it) and the patch.

-grind down the area where the cut is.
-clean it real good.
-apply glue (you can use a lighter to heat it up if you'd like but not necessary. make sure to blow it out after a bit)
-apply patch.
-then run that thing they run over tires to get all the bubbles out(looks like a wheel with a handle)

that should be all you need to do it yourself.

insurance factor is the big reason for not wanting to do it.

get a blow out patch for big tires. then install it.

get a tube and make sure its for a 33" tire and radial use.

then put it on the rear of the truck pref right rear my self. as i would not want front blow out at speed and if blows pulls you right off road.

keep a eye on the tire for any real signs of coming apart.

i have done this for people in the past. but i also tell them i dont know you and never tuched your tire. :eek1:

Do you know if any of those tires u fixed ever had any problems??

show me a pic, ill tell you if its still good or not. inside and out. from what it sounds like, a 2 inch long cut all the way through is often times junk. if that is the case i suggest NOT running that tire under any circumstances.

I Haven't even seen the inside of the tire yet cuz I'm away at school... My dad just took it to the place. I talked to a guy at the tire store and now it sounds like its a jagged 3 inch long cut. So its in the ****s huh?
