Tube bed side project (pictures)

looks more like a wheelie bar then a hitch

I'll just copy and paste his post from a local board:

We finally have everything but the CB finished on this thing now. Mounted the spare tire by using a 1/4" plate underneath the alum. between the supports with a 3/4" nut welded to the backside and then a 1/4" plate that goes in the center of the rim on top with a bolt going down through everything. This way, if i need to haul somthing I can take the spare out and there's nothing in the way. Also got the air tank bolted to the underside of the toolbox and all the air lines hooked up again and the mounts for the Hi Lift welded together and put in place on the down bar.

There are a couple loose ends that need to be tied up yet. CB needs to be wired, two short support tubes need to be made, and we've gotta figure out how we're gonna make quick disconnect mudflaps....and getting rid of the big gay hitch.

Big thanks to Kert at DIY4X for the plasma cutting and welding the rear x-member together.

Two pieces of strap bolted to the back of the plate, ratchet strap sandwiched between the plate and the steel strap. Ratchet strap is cranked down around the circumference of the tire.

Pretty nifty actually.

Nice idea Mike! I like your cage builds, both on stomper's and your truck. good job. I'd like to take some lessons on tube bending and welding also. Of course gotta get the tools to play with and do some practice. :thumb:

Haha, thanks but I had no part in Stomper's rig. That was all Brett (Stomper) and Kert (cybrfire).

Ahh.. my bad... I guess I misread somewhere thinking you did the work. Kert's da man too!
