tube bender

I just know that when I tried to post them to the site before, it said that the file was too big. I just wanted to be able to put them up for everyone.

You obviously got them o.k.?

They are PDFs. I have Acrobat 7.0 Professional, and can adjust them. What is the maximum size allowable on CK5? They are only 150-200k a piece.

Here ya go...

DISCLAIMER: Because of the nature of the resizing and my ghetto-techniques for them, these drawings are NOT full sized and are NOT to scale with each other. The dimensions should be used as dimensions and the drawings should not be used as templates until they are blown up to full size again.

I've built a complete tube bender at the last place I worked at. We were a little slow at the time and they knew i had a JD2...so they asked me to copy it so the shop would have one. It was a total 'make work' project.

My opinion is that anyone is going to be much better off just buying the damn thing. Even with a well equipped shop I spent about 14 hours on the frame parts. Then the guy on the lathe spent about 4 hours spinning up the die. The follower was a PITA to get right as well.

As a money saving exercise this is a bad idea IMO. The final 'cost' of the one we built was $1700 in shop time.

I was thinking of getting the protools model 105 bender kit it comes with a degree ring stand bar and a die of my choice. It will save me some time making the stand and the bar and what not. i think it is like 635.

:waytogo: Now if someone could resize these, we could just post them up here. I'm not that computer savy.

I'll host the original full sized PDF's for those who need to get more detail.

The JD2 are tough benders. We can bend any thickness of 1.25" Wall DOM, .25" wall 1.5" DOM - Usually you'd never need anything larger than 2"x.120 wall on a well designed roll cage.

Gauder, unless tRustyK5 scared everyone away, I'd be interested in hearing the cost of your help with machining.

The pipe bender on the link will work. BUT you will end up with a pinch in the corners. Much like the bends you see in an exhaust system. A tube bender makes nice smooth bends.
